Congratulations to Real Salt Lake for reaching the finals of the 2010/11 CONCACAF Champions League.
They become the first Major League Soccer team to do so since the tournament changed from its
previous format as the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The LA Galaxy were the last MLS team to reach a
CONCACAF tournament final back in 2000.
After a long pause over the winter break the CONCACAF Champions League returned with great fanfare,
applause, and fireworks!
OK, maybe there were no fireworks or even fans for that matter but the final eight of the
tournament resumed play yesterday with the Columbus Crew fighting a grueling game against Real Salt
Lake that ended in 3 red cards.
The longest running soccer tournament in the United States, the US Open Cup, announced the format
for its 98th edition this year. The 2011 winner will receive $100,000 cash prize. While it's not a
grand prize amount it certainly goes towards paying up some date that burdens the majority of
soccer clubs in the US.
