The Philadelphia Union will not have the services of starting forward Lionard Pajoy after Major
League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee suspended him for one game for his challenge on Toronto FC
forward Joao Plata last weekend.
Pajoy was also fined for the incident in which the Colombian striker lost the ball and went in
hard against Plata, who had gained possession of the ball seconds before the challenge.
Panamanian National Team assistant captain Gabriel Gomez will miss today's friendly against
Jamaica and may miss the country's two upcoming 2014 World Cup Qualifying games, according to David
Sakata of Diario Pro.
Gomez was evaluated on Wednesday by the team doctor, Gerinaldo Martinez, who requested that the
player have a sonogram.
Peter Nowak's job security may have plenty of questions surrounding it, but his second in
command doesn't have much to worry about in that regard.
The Brotherly Game has learned that the Union have planned for John Hackworth, the Philadelphia
Union's assistant coach since the beginning of its existence, to take over as head coach in the
event that Nowak will be let go.
The Philadelphia Union won their first ever US Open Cup game, defeating the visiting Rochester
Rhinos 3-0 in a rain affected game.
FIRST HALF
Keon Daniel started off the first half well, winning a corner early. The Trinidad and Tobago
international was slightly hurt on the play and got up slowly and gingerly.
This past Sunday, USWNT Head Coach Pia Sundhage announced the 18 players she will be bringing
with her to London to compete in this Summer's Olympic games in London. Eleven of the players named
to the Olympic squad also competed in the 2011 World Cup in Beijing. Three players named to the
squad, Shannon Boxx, Heather O'Reilly and Heather Mitts, are each returning for their third Olympic
games.

weaknesses, players to watch and storylines for tonight's game. For the rest, visit Doherty

Strengths:
The team is very strong in defense.
With the Olympics quickly approaching, it would seem the USWNT are prepared to take on whoever
will be thrown at them when they head to London. Pia Sundhage's squad played a great game of
football in front of a sold out crowd at PPL Park on Sunday, coming up with a big win against
China. This match also marked the debut of new matching kits for both the USMNT and the USWMNT, who
put them to good use.
Mark Pallo, of Rhino Pit, wrote the following article to appear on
the Brotherly Game. Rhino Pit is an independent site that has covered the Rochester Rhinos since
1996.
The Rochester Rhinos are no strangers when it comes to competing against MLS clubs in U.S. Open
Cup play. Their 1999 USOC title win over the Colorado Rapids is an accomplishment that still
remains sweet and special within the Rochester soccer community.
I stood in the heat and listen to the names of Cherry Hill's greatest starting at 11 a.m, as I,
and my family, always do on Memorial Day. It's the least that we can do to show gratitude to those
that served in the military and provided the ability for all within the United States of America to
live free, liberty filled lives.
Coming off of yet another win in the Canadian Championship, the pointless Toronto FC's
confidence was speculated about in the media and by fans online. The Canadian team's play against
the Philadelphia Union showed that their nine-game run in MLS may have been a fluke, as Toronto
beat the visitors 1-0 at BMO Field.
