A potential transfer for Brazilian international striker Leandro Damiao has come sharply into
focus this week as his agent starts to talk up a move abroad for his client. Damiao has emerged to
become one of the hottest properties in world football and it's hard to see how Internacional will
hang on to his services for too much longer.
Birmingham City manager Chris Hughton has publicly declared an interest in taking Tottenham's
versatile left sided player Danny Rose on loan until the end of the season.
Hughton was at Spurs when Rose arrived from Leeds United and he sees him as a player who could
help the club's final promotion push.
With games against North London rivals Arsenal and fellow title chasers Manchester United coming
up, Tottenham Hotspur will see these fixtures as vitally important matches rather than just a
chance to get one over on long running Premier League foes.
In recent seasons, wins for Spurs against Arsenal and United have been all too rare.
Simon Dawkins found himself as a surprise inclusion in Spurs 25 man squad list but any hopes of
an appearance in the Tottenham first team this season have been ended with news of another loan
spell in the MLS.
Simon has returned to San Jose Earthquakes, the side he played for last season and while Spurs
fans are unclear as to what the 24 year old could offer his parent club, Earthquakes head coach
Frank Yallop is delighted to welcome him back.
It's been a miserable couple of seasons for Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone and while the club
has announced further progress in his latest comeback from injury, Tom now looks set to miss the
rest of the campaign.
The announcement on the official website reads,
‘Tom Huddlestone will undergo a second stage of surgery on Friday to further his recovery
following ankle surgery at the end of last year.
It may sometimes be a little premature to announce a signing ahead of the official club website
but by all accounts, the Brazilian Under 20 defender Bruno Uvini has joined Spurs on loan with a
view to a permanent deal being struck in the summer.
Certainly the player has announced that a deal has been concluded.
Spurs' official website has announced the results of fans' voting for the goal of the month and
player of the month for January and while the announcements may not have been that surprising, were
there other, more worthy contenders?
As for the player of the month, fans awarded the accolade to Scott Parker who has now won the
award for four out of the five months that he has been at the club.
Speaking from a purely personal point of view I desperately want Harry to stay and as such, you
won't have seen too much in the way of managerial speculation on these pages. However, it was
interesting to note the rumours concerning Jurgen Klinsmann and in particular the suggestion that
he was putting his name in the frame followed by a subsequent denial.
One player tends to dominate the Spurs headlines this morning and that is the Lille midfielder
Eden Hazard. Some areas of the press have even claimed that terms have been agreed ahead of a
summer transfer and while the 21 year old Belgian international has denied this, he has made
positive noises towards a potential move at the end of the season.
In the space of 45 minutes Louis Saha won over a huge proportion of Spurs fans who were
wondering just why Harry Redknapp had moved to secure the Frenchman at the end of the transfer
window.
One game doesn't prove everything however and although the striker looked sharp, he will need to
stay fit through the rest of the campaign to convince the club that he is worthy of a further
contract.
Who was your man of the match v Newcastle?
Essentially this may come down to two players – Emmanuel Adebayor and Louis Saha, both of whom
drew praise from manager Harry Redknapp after the game.
"Adebayor and Saha were unplayable in that early period and it set us up," Harry said.
You felt that with the way Spurs had been playing for most of this season that someone was due
for a real hiding and while 5-0 represents an emphatic victory over Newcastle, a 4-0 score line at
half time suggests that things could have been much worse for our visitors.
"We all felt it would be a tough game but we started so brightly," said Harry after the
match.
The big news ahead of this evening's game is that Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon are back in
contention and with Rafael van der Vaart ruled out, both could play from the start.
"Jermain has trained okay in the last couple of days and Aaron Lennon as well, he's coming back,
he's looked sharp," said Harry on Friday.
It's still pretty much impossible to find any actual news other than the Redknapp for England
links but it is worth just looking at some of the manager's quotes since he was first questioned on
the subject.
"Of course it is nice that people put me in a position where they think I've got a chance of
getting the job.
According to our old friends at the Daily Mail, Spurs have opened talks with club captain Ledley
King over a new contract to replace his current one which expires at the end of the season. The
report also suggests that the player will reject a pay as you play deal although it seems to offer
no claim that this is the type of contract that the club is offering.
