With the international break over and the Leagues ready to embark upon their run in to the January
transfer window, the rumours continue to hot up. Atletico Madrid's 21 year old Sergio Aguero could
be heading to Chelsea now that their transfer ban has been overturned, a move that will see the
Spanish side receive, what is currently believed to be, around £40 million, while AC Milan's
needlessly violent bulldog Gennaro Gattuso has apparently made mention of a move to England,
specifically Manchester City.

We heard yesterday that 26 year old Dutch centre forward Klaas Jan Huntelaar (of Real Madrid and
currently AC Milan fame) is going up for transfer come January, and, with a desire to play in
England, clubs entering the bidding war for the £12 million-rated striker will be Chelsea,
Liverpool and Birmingham, who have recently come into some money with the arrival of Carson Yeung
as their new owner.

Manchester United continue to be the thorn in the side of decency in football. Beaten 1-0 at
Stamford Bridge yesterday, their reaction lacked dignity and we must question, once again, why a
club who can't take defeat without blaming other people "is the best in the world". With the most
hateful man in football, Ron Atkinson, opening his bilious mouth once more and Wayne Rooney
mouthing the words "twelve men" at the camera on his way off the pitch we were reminded of .

One of the biggest matches this weekend has to be the meeting of the two teams at the top of the
Premier League. Chelsea invite Man Utd to Stamford Bridge for the first match between the two this
season. Man Utd have not won their last five matches against the Big Four clubs, and Ancelotti has
won all of Chelsea's last nine home games.

What a difference a week makes. After having romped to victory over bitterest rivals Man Utd at
Anfield, somewhat taking the heat off "in-the-firing-line" manager Benitez, Liverpool have
themselves imploded in dramatic fashion against a team in the Premier League which, it must be
said, don't do much to speed up the process of the paint drying.

Last night Spanish giants Real Madrid suffered a 4-0 defeat to third tier team Alcorcon in the
Spanish King's Cup, making it their third defeat in five games. Real have not won the cup in 16
years, and this is more than slightly reminiscent of the result that began their slide in the first
half of last season, when they were knocked out by another third-tier side Real Union in the fourth
round.

Score-lines from the weekend's football included a 2-2 draw between West Ham and Arsenal at Upton
Park, ahead of Arsenal's rather more bitter London derby this weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea trounced Blackburn Rovers 5-0 after a defeat against Aston Villa the week before which
keeps them out in front, though in a rather less spectacular points lead.

Liverpool yet again this season find themselves in a position which, this time last year, could not
have even been imagined. With the loss at home to Lyon and a match coming up against Premier League
Manchester United, is the club facing an implosion, and why? Enough has been said about the loss of
Xabi Alonso and the playmaking abilities at the back of midfield which he so effortlessly brought
to the team, but does one man matter that much?

Almost half way through the group stage and things are hotting up. While some teams go from bad to
worse, others look to cement themselves in a qualification place before reaching the last two
games. Arsenal, though, could only manage a draw away to AZ Alkmaar, putting them only one point
clear at the top ahead of Olympiakos, who defeated Standard Liege at home 2-1.

For the home teams at least, its pretty much decided. With one match left to play tonight in each
European group only the fate of England come next summer is secure. They sit six points of clear of
current play-off place-holders Ukraine, who could be dispossessed by third place Croatia (a team
who had a shockingly excellent run in the Euros last year) who have a much superior goal
difference.

With Man City, Aston Villa and serial under-achievers Spurs all fighting it out for a place in the
top four, who will lose out and change the face of the Big Four for the first time in five years?
Rafa Benitez continues to insist that the top seven teams will lose more matches this year. But
after his 2-0 defeat away to Chelsea, a game which Liverpool won 1-0 last season after a deflected
goal from Xabi Alonso, his team have already lost more matches in .

All of the second fixtures of the group stages have been played and we can already see the fate of
some teams lying ahead. Some look sure, already, to be fighting for a Uefa Cup place, some look
like they will have a full campaign of fighting until the last match for qualification, and some
are just going through the motions.

The Champions League group stage continues this week and with the first night of matches over, some
important games have ended with equally important results, with the scoring of some memorable
goals. Surprises haven't been lacking too, so where does this put some of the favourites already,
in terms of their qualification chances?

The latest rumour surrounding Liverpool FC is that a Saudi Prince is putting up £350 million to
buy a 50% share in the club. Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah, chair of two Saudi-based
companies F6 and Fama Group, told the newspaper Al-Riyadh that a deal was "close to being reached"
worth between £200 and £350 million.
