While I would have loved to bring the same amount of AIK coverage as last season, there
unfortunately isn't enough time for me to pull that off this year. Since I've had a couple of
requests from people to keep them updated on AIK this season I have decided to oblige, without
actually taking up blogging again.
The Good:
1. Extended records and league lead for AIK
2. Ivan Obolo's world class finish
3. Antonio Flavio's first goal
4. Solid performances from the entire team
The Bad:
1. We won't get to play Häcken anymore this year
The Ugly:
The stadium, Rambergsvallen, should be torn down.
The twenty-second round of Allsvenskan is finally upon us after a two-week long break. The top two
teams AIK and IFK Göteborg face tricky away games, which could open up the field for Elfsborg. But
don't expect any big moves in the top of Allsvenskan as you can be sure that things will remain
extremely close even after play is completed in this round.
AIK's last game of the season will be played on November 1st against IFK Göteborg. The game, which
will be played at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg, could very well be a decisive match in the title
race. Any real supporter would obviously do whatever they can to be on hand for that event.
Since AIK supporters are arguably the most devoted fans in Swedish soccer, the tickets to the AIK
sections are now sold out, almost two months ahead of the game.
The semi-final game in the Swedish Cup will be a game that will live on in the memories of AIK
supporters for a long time to come. One of the most mind-boggling last minute turnarounds brought
AIK to a sixteenth cup final with a solid chance at an eight cup title.
AIK was the best team over 90 minutes and it looked like it was going to be yet another 1-0 win
following an early goal from Ivan Obolo.
The king-maker, widow-maker 21st round is now behind us. As it turns out no kings were made and no
one was widowed after all. Elfsborg failed to beat IFK Göteborg and Djurgården managed to score a
draw away against GAIS. As a result, both the top and the bottom remain too close to call and we'll
have plenty of new widow-maker games to look forward to this fall.
In a couple of hours Djurgården will play their most important match of the season. Were the team
to lose this game against GAIS they will fall at least six points away from safer ground and
relegation would be imminent.
So how will Djurgården perform in this crucial match? Well, perhaps taking a peek at their
practices will give us a clue.
The game against Trelleborg meant another 1-0 game win for AIK. But it wasn't just another 1-0 win
in the sense that AIK played one of their best games of the season. Great play along the wings for
once and Antonio Flavio proved that he can perform at a level above the opposition. Excellent
technique from the young Brazilian tonight.
Matches against Trelleborg tend to conjure up images of AIK struggling to break through a ten-man
defense in order to break a stiff and cold deadlock. I usually hate those types of games as they
tend to be the most nerve-racking ones. Although Trelleborg has shown themselves to be a far more
positive team this season, I still approach this game with a bit of trepidation.
Gothenburg will be turned into Gettysburg this weekend when Gamla Ullevi hosts two absolutely
crucial games in the twenty-first round of Allsvenskan. The first battle takes place in the top of
the table as IFK Göteborg takes on title favorites Elfsborg. The second battle sees GAIS face
Djurgården in a most fateful match-up in the bottom of the league.
If you take a peek at the standings in Allsvenskan after the twentieth round you could easily
believe that the battle at the top was as close as ever. If you actually saw the games of the
twentieth round you'd wonder what in the world happened to a couple of these top contenders.
Elfsborg may only have a one point lead at the moment, but they are clearly growing into a heavy
title favorite.
If I were to put a positive spin on this game I'd say that AIK is still the team with the longest
undefeated streak in Allsvenskan. Oh, and that AIK still remains in first place for another day or
two. But if I had to level with you, I would say that the draw against Kalmar still feels like a
bit of a letdown.
I'll post game updates on the Twitter page.

AIK won't enjoy any sort of peace and quiet at the top of Allsvenskan. Their pole position will
immediately be threatened by a very tough opponent as the reigning champions Kalmar FF comes to
Råsunda on Saturday. It's a tricky match-up that AIK hasn't won since 2006. But this game could
very well mark a negative turning point for Kalmar, a team that has been an unlikely success story
for the past few years.
The twentieth round of Allsvenskan gives us two very interesting matches at the top of the table.
Kalmar is up against the wall as they take on league leaders AIK. The reigning champions of Kalmar
will need to come up with a good result in order to remain in a strong title contender. In the
other notable match-up for the top, disease-ridden and injury-laden Elfsborg takes on Örebro only
three days after their match against Lazio in the Europa League.
