New Away Strip Launched

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear.

Black and hot pink are not the best colours for a football strip. And Everton's new away strip will no doubt, win the award for worst strip of the season, easily beating Newcastle's banana strip.

Footballers already have the reputation of being girls, when they fall at the drop of a hat, writhing in agony one minute because a blade of grass got in their way.

It seems that Everton target, Kyle Naughton has joined Spurs after Everton refused to match Spurs' offer, even though Sheff Utd had granted Everton permission to speak to the player, only to have that permission rescinded after Spurs trumped it.

The player was apparently very keen to join Everton and had even begun searching for houses in the area.

Special post today, as I attended my first ever Tour de France stage. This was to be the tenth stage of the 2009 Tour de France and covered 194.5km from Limoges to Issoudun in Indre, about 50kms from where I live. I have driven this route before and by car, takes a good couple of hours to do.

The programme suggested getting into position at around 3pm as this was the expected time of arrival of the riders.

Blargins' Injury Time is undergoing a make over. Was getting bored with the old theme and much prefer looking at black text on a mainly white background - makes it easier to read for everybody.

Now the purple does look a bit crappy. I liked the theme, but there was a choice only of purple or red - and obviously red was never going to be an option!

A Quick Premier League Review of Season 08/09

It was quite a season, 2008/09, with possibly the tightest challenge for the title in many a year. Even the battle for relegation was tight for up to ten clubs until the last few weeks of the season, and few would have predicted that outcome at the beginning of August 2008.

The previous season, Manchester Utd had won the premiership title and scraped the European Champions League final.

Player Ratings for the Season

Howard 8 - Solid overall, has made some silly mistakes (who doesn't), but he did beat Southall's shut out record in the Premiership. Also the only player to play every single minute of every match.

Hibbert 6.5 - Found some great form mid season and was looking unbeatable, then injury struck.

So, the final weeks of the season approach and after losing three top players, Everton chase 5th place in the league and FA Cup glory.

The final matches of the season saw just one defeat, at home to Manchester City, but despite this, Everton managed to finally overtake Aston Villa in the final two games of the season to take 5th place.

The Band of Brothers

The first part of the season offered little cheer. Apart from the signing of David Moyes to a new 5 year contract, overall, Everton appeared to be in decline. It was only the poor showing from the rest of the league that meant Everton were not already involved in a relegation battle.
