Newcastle United have released their list of retained and released players. The full list of
released players is as follows:
- Alan Smith
- Danny Guthrie
- Peter Lovenkrands
- Samuel Adjei
- Phil Airey
- Ryan Donaldson
- Stephen Folan
- Jeff Henderson
- Tamas Kadar
- Greg McDermott
- Patrick Nzuzi
I for one am sorry to see Danny Guthrie go, because I think given a decent run in the first team
he'll do well somewhere.
The football season has ended, and for Newcastle United, the summer will be a crucial one in
terms of bringing in new players. So, below is a list of transfer targets that have either been
linked to a move to St. James's Park, or transfers we reckon have at least some potential of
happening.
Not sure how many of you have seen this, but it goes to show the level of commitment from one of
my favourite Newcastle United players of the season, Yohan Cabaye. I'm not sure if this is to
advertise his new website (pardon my dodgy French), but whatever it's about, it's definitely worth
a watch.
At the start of today, there was everything on the line, and not just for Newcastle United.
Champions League football, the Premier League title, and relegation to the Championship. For
Newcastle, Champions League football would cap what has been an excellent season.
Unfortunately, the Toon ended the season on a disappointing note, going down at Goodison Park to
a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Everton.
Today Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew was named Premier League Manager of the Year. I
suspected this might happen in our post from last week, but was chuffed to bits today that the
Premier League have recognized Pardew's work at Newcastle.
Undoubtedly, Pardew has impressed. No-one wanted him at Newcastle, other than Mike Ashley and
Derek Llambias, and he walked into a bit of a no-win situation.
Newcastle United took one-step closer to the unthinkable Champions League, as they defeated an
uninspired Stoke City at St. James's Park. With Arsenal and Chelsea playing out a 0-0 draw earlier
in the day, Newcastle could gain ground on Arsenal and pull away from Chelsea. All they needed to
do was win, and win they did.

Newcastle United's season has been a bit of a revelation. Absolutely no-one predicted we'd be
fighting and competing for Champions League football at the start of the season. Steady, but
unspectacular signings and big-name players leaving the club saw many pundits predicting mid-table
mediocrity for us, and you'd be hard pushed to argue with them.

Newcastle United pulled off a coup today in the signing of Senegalese striker Papisse Demba
Cisse. The former Freiburg striker has nine goals from 15 appearances so far this season, and
finished last season as one of the top goalscorers in the Bundesliga with 22 goals to his name.
The striker signs on a 5 and-a-half year deal, and the transfer fee is thought to be in the
region of £7.

Liverpool's failure to defeat Stoke at Anfield means that a Newcastle win against QPR on Sunday
would see the Geordies move up to sixth in the Premier League. How much has Kenny Dalglish spent?
How much have Newcastle spent? Oh yeah, and Liverpool have Stevie G. the world's greatest ever
midfield player (ahem).

With the last two teams to defeat Manchester United coming together at St. James's Park in the
FA Cup third round, this could be a more entertaining game than many are predicting. With Demba Ba
and Cheick Tiote not being able to play for Newcastle Until the 26th of February, those two spots
are now up for grabs.
