Vasco is Back to First Division!

See The Cup @ 05:22 PM EST

Vasco da Gama is back from hell. The Brazilian giant granted its return to the first division of Campeonato Brasileiro less than a year after being relegated. Vasco was another giant that, as it's been happening a lot lately, felt the results of the poor administrations that control most of Brazilian football.

Sudamericana: Only One Brazilian Remains

See The Cup @ 08:34 PM EST

Copa Sudamericana reached the semifinals, two Brazilian clubs had the chance to be in the final 4. However, only Fluminense did so. Flu visited Universidad de Chile and one more time relied on Fred. The ex-Lyon seems to be playing for all the matches he did nothing since the beginning of the year.

Now that Argentina has finally secured a spot in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, they can present the new uniform to be used next year. The new kit is very loyal to past Argentinian shirts and does a great job of keeping the pajama feel

The Good-bye of Sorin

See The Cup @ 10:07 PM EST

Sorin played yesterday his last match as a professional footballer. And the stage for the farewell party could be no other place than the Mineirao, in Belo Horizonte. And the teams on the field could be no different than Argentinos Juniors, club where the left-back started his career, and Cruzeiro, club for whom he professes all his love.

Today Raymond Domenech presented France's new kit to be used at the World Cup in 2010. Not my favorite one to be honest. What do you think?

Champions League – Matchday 4 Results

See The Cup @ 05:17 PM EST

Another round. Games working out as predicted except for Man U 3 3 CSKA Moscow which I really thought would go to Manchester. And of course Barcelona's inability to beat Kazan but they were not playing at home (if that even serves as an excuse!). The big derby AC Milan vs. Real Madrid turned out quite well even with teh 1-1 tie (and I see a light in the dark for Ronaldinho there is hope).

Why Brazil Failed in the U17 World Cup

See The Cup @ 11:45 PM EST

The same way the U20 World Cup generated some analysis, the failure of the U17 deserves even more talk. First of all, being eliminated in group that had Mexico, Switzerland and Japan is a shame. There is simply no excuse.

This pathetic elimination was so bad that no projections for the future can be made.

Video: Bicycle Kick Still Trendy in Brazil

See The Cup @ 04:42 AM EST

It seems this generation that grew up playing FIFA/Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution Soccer and watching Nike commercials have total disregard for bicycle goals. But they forget how it's not easy. And I love them. Last weekend, William from Avai did it. And he cried on the pitch after scoring it.

Brasileiro: Palmeiras and Sao Paulo Share the Top

See The Cup @ 01:59 AM EST

The 33rd round of Brasileirao put on the top Palmeiras and Sao Paulo, creator (Muricy Ramalho) versus creation (Sao Paulo). Palmeiras leads because of the goal difference, three more than Sao Paulo.

On the weekend, Palmeiras played the derby against Corinthians whereas Sao Paulo played Barueri.

Brasileiro: Palmeiras Gains New Hope

See The Cup @ 07:07 PM EST

Until the 32nd started, things looked dull for Palmeiras. There was enormous pressure and the fear that the team had just lost the Brasileiro. But after the last mid-week round of Brasileirao, things changed again. Palmeiras won and all direct rivals, but one, lost precious points. With that, the hopes of Palmeiras fans have been renewed.

Roberto Carlos: “Mommy, Kiss my Boo boo”

The ex- Brazil international shows what he really needs to recover from injuries. One of the most pathetic moments of his career. More than taking care of your socks when France is kicking out of the World Cup:

Dunga Calls Fabio Aurelio, Hulk and Michel Bastos

See The Cup @ 01:39 PM EST

Dunga announced today the players who will play the last 2 matches of the year (against England and Oman). And he had a few surprises. Given that he decided not to call players from Brazilian clubs (and therefore was unable to call Adriano and Diego Tardelli), he called forward Hulk. But he wasn't the only surprise.

Yep, Becks is back to AC Milan.

See The Cup @ 04:23 PM EST

As expected, David Beckham is done with the MLS for now (or is it forever?). The British beau is set to come back to AC Milan in January and although this is supposed to be another loan from LA Galaxy I find it hard to believe that he will go back to the States. AC Milan's vice-president, Adriano Galliani, said this is the only player coming in the next window.
