ATL Soccer @ 07:54 PM EST
In the previous post I discussed working on developing an Atlanta Soccer Supporters Club.  With the upcoming World Cup Qualifier taking place in Nashville this is the type of event that I could envision the organization renting a van and taking 50+ of our closest friends. But how interested would you be? A few months ago when I started this blog we had a much different soccer scene.  The Silverbacks were still around, WPS was coming, and MLS was still a possibility.  Shortly after starting the blog we received the news that the Silverbacks were taking at least the 2009 season off, if not longer.  Then the [. Goodbye Silverbacks, Hello Blackhawks

ATL Soccer @ 12:21 AM EST
No not the USL1 team.  When the Silverbacks shut down the men's teams they took with them the Premier Development League team.  That vacancy is what allowed FC Atlanta Blackhawks to come in and fill the void.  A few weeks ago I expressed my concern on a post that Georgia may never be home to a high [. On Thursday the Atlanta Silverbacks named David Hayes as their new coach for the Atlanta Silverbacks Women of the W-league.  With David being named the 2007 Defender of the year and picking up All-league selections in 2007 & 2008 I was expecting to see him signing for a new team.   But it looks like he [. A matter of time?

ATL Soccer @ 12:54 AM EST
SundayPaper.com did an interview with Arthur Blank and Mr. Blank had this to say when asked if the cause of the failed MLS bid was due to the inability to get a group of partners together. That wasn't the reason. When you do a deal with MLS, it's a very complex deal. And the general thinking in [.. Click to continue reading...

KSU moving forward with new athletic park

ATL Soccer @ 12:05 PM EST
When Arthur Blank's AMB group approached KSU about the public-private partnership in those plans they had always intended to build fields in addition to the stadium.  In fact, last fall KSU had made mention of that desire prior to AMB group coming into the picture.  Earlier this week Wesley Wicker, executive director of the KSU [. Former Silverback YouTubed himself into Scotland team!

ATL Soccer @ 09:21 AM EST
It's Friday and after yesterday's depressing news of the Atlanta MLS bid fail I thought we could all use a feel good story. A few months ago Martyn Lancaster was an Atlanta Silverbacks player.  After the team folded he got a little homesick for British football.  His wife posted his highlight reel on YouTube and a week later he was signed [. ATL Soccer @ 09:23 PM EST
It's a sad day as the hope of seeing an MLS team come to Atlanta has taken a significant hit.  Arthur Blank has told MLS that the Atlanta bid would be unable to have a stadium deal in place and begin play by 2011.   Effectively dropping out of contingency for the current bidding for two [...] Click to continue reading...
