The Earthquakes have brought Geovani to the MLS to play for San Jose as their "Designated
Player".
It seems a fit. Geovani brings the attacking creativity and quality of finish often lacking from
the Quakes workmanlike play the Quakes desperately need a playmaker in the middle.
It takes more than a single player to make a team worthy at a given level and Geovani was unable
to keep Hull in the Premier League.

Craig Bellamy changes the course of the MLS as the San Jose Earthquakes first Designated Player
It would set the MLS and US soccer on fire.
Bring Craig Bellamy to the San Jose Earthquakes. His addition alone would be
enough to take the Quakes into the playoffs and I'd wager to win the whole league.

San Jose Earthquake Steve Beitashour lent a hand, well a foot, in NASA testing. Goal keepers
blame this ball for shots that get by them, strikers blame it for shots that are off target:
doesn't that make it the perfect soccer ball for the World Cup? Jabulani may be futbol for
excuse.
I suspect it is also why the referees get their calls wrong.

This is a key question with the final games of Group C two days away.
The USA, Slovenia, and England all have their fate in their own hands, and only need to win
their final Group game to advance; Slovenia is also certain of advancing if they just draw. For
these 3 national teams, nothing that has happened in the World Cup to date matters, all that
matters is winning their next game.

What happens if two or more teams are tied for points in Group play? We looked up the FIFA
rules, shown verbatim below.
It comes down to: points, goal differential, total goals, points between the tied teams, goal
differential between the tied teams, total goals between the tied teams, and FIFA making a random

The USA's come back to draw Slovenia puts them in the position of being unbeaten in the World
Cup finals so far, but in great danger of not advancing to the knock out rounds.
Advancing is still in the USA's hands, however: the USA will most likely advance if they beat
Algeria, and the USA can guarantee advancing by beat Algeria by enough goals.

Consider the NBA, professional basketball in the USA. They have three referees working a court
of 50 feet by 94 feet. Are there disputed calls? Sure. But the referees are always very close to
the action and it is pretty hard to get away with anything.
Now consider soccer (futbol). The playing pitch is a minimum of 300 feet by 330 feet, and they
still have only three referees.

There was a defender on the goal line, and yet they called it offside. Did the referees get it
right?
If it was not offside, then Mexico had the their first World Cup 2010 match stolen from
them. Opinions?!

Zinedine Zidane, the French near legendary footballer, ended his career horribly 4 years ago in
the World Cup with a head butt heard around the world. Whatever the provocation, and surely he was
provoked by his opponent, it was a dark day for Zidane, France, the World Cup and soccer. Zidane
was sent off, his professional career over, and France finished the final down a man, and lost.

The Corrigan Brothers are claiming Wayne Rooney as an Irish football hero. And you thought
Ireland wasn't in the World Cup!
Wayne Rooney's parents are Irish, so fair enough. How much weight should place of birth get in
matters of allegiance, anyway? After all, Rooney was born in Liverpool.

Brilliant! Would you have thought of it?
In Africa, passionate soccer fans don't let the lack of a factory produced ball stop them. And
now we know, perhaps, what at least some of those condoms distributed to Africa are really used
for.
