Union Looking At Alternative Venues For Opening Day

MLS Daily @ 04:02 PM EST
Confirming a report made by the Wasington Post's Steven Goff on Wednesday, Philadelphia Union president Tom Veit acknowledged this morning that the club may end up playing their first-ever league game in a venue other than the 18,500-seat stadium that is currently being built for them in Chester. Instead, there is a possibility that the team will kick off their first season in the league at 68,000-seat Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. MLS Daily @ 07:42 PM EST
San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Darren Huckerby has told an English newspaper he is "99% sure" that he has played his last competitive game, likely forced into an early retirement because of a hip injury that required surgery last week.

2010 MLS Season To Break For World Cup

MLS Daily @ 04:15 PM EST
Major League Soccer officials have announced this afternoon their decision to schedule a league break during the group phase of the 2010 FIFA World Cup next summer, marking the first time it has done so in its 14-year history. The move comes in response to constant criticism of the league's policy of scheduling games on FIFA-recognized international dates and during tournaments, such as the Gold Cup, Confederations Cup and World Cup. CL: Gomez PK Propels United To Road Victory

MLS Daily @ 05:18 AM EST
Needing a win to avoid falling completely out of touch in Group B of the CONCACAF Champions League, DC United rode an early Christian Gomez penalty kick to a crucial road victory against Trinidadian side San Juan Jabloteh on Tuesday evening. The result was especially encouraging, considering that DC was missing several regulars through injury or a decision to rest, including Jaime Moreno, Santino Quaranta, Fred and Josh Wicks. Mexican Teams Drop DC, Crew

MLS Daily @ 11:22 AM EST
Despite the August 12th loss to Mexico, many US soccer fans still believe that their team has the edge against their Mexican counterparts on the international level.
