Nick Hornby on the State of English Football

15
I wasn't going to post anything else today over here. But, um. Nick Hornby's latest post is pretty much made of awesome and reflects a lot of what I (and other fans) feel. Granted, I haven't supported Arsenal (or any team) for 40 years (mostly because I'm not 40). But I don't think that makes my feels on the issue any less valid. Click to continue reading...

Blogging elsewhere on Thursday

Just a heads up that I'm the guest blogger over on This Is Extra Time today (Thursday). I'll be talking about such things as Norwegian boy bands, Michael Bradley and the curse of Arsenal. Click to continue reading...

Arsenal Ladies

3
Leeds can't catch a break, and I'm fine with that. Arsenal Ladies beat Leeds Carnegie 6-1, but there was apparently drama on the pitch. Both Kelly Smith (Arsenal) and Alex Culvin (Leed) were shown red cards in the 22nd minute (Smith's two goals came in the second and fifth minutes). From Arsenal's match report:Smith saw red along with Carnegie's Alex Culvin when the pair squared up to each other Click to continue reading...

three things on a sunday

Arsenal That was the first game I've watched all season (including pre-season) and it was, well, fun. For a bit I felt like Newcastle was playing better (they did a fair bit of keep away in the first half and parts of the second), but as soon as we got that first goal, the team seemed to step up. The passing was good, (not great, but it's really only the third game of the season) and that third Click to continue reading...

Arsenal

Arsenal Ladies won again. They beat Watford 6-1, with Smith and Little each scoring two goals. From the match report:The Gunners are ahead of Chelsea and Everton on goal difference with all three clubs enjoying 100% records.I have to admit that I'm pretty proud of the ladies. Hopefully they'll keep winning and, even though I don't want Arsenal's dominance to be challenge, I kind of like that Click to continue reading...

Monday Catch Up

2
I have a lot I want to say, but really no desire to actually say it. Which is really lucky, because I'm sure none of you want to read it. Let's recap everything that I haven't posted about: USWNT won! It was fantastic, I'm grateful I didn't have to work Thursday morning so that I could watch it.USMNT won! Click to continue reading...

Ladies football

First off, The FA has a list of all the fixtures for the Women's Premier League, with a separate results list as well. Aside from the bright orange color (ugh), it's really kind of awesome. They also have a really nice preview of the season and their front page has a lot of great news about the league and teams. Click to continue reading...

USWNT at the Olympics and Arsenal Ladies

0
First off, I'm totally excited about the USWNT. I "watched" the game at work (mostly I was doing actual work) and caught two of the four goals (and one of the two Japanese goals). From what I saw, most of the first half was pretty bad, but the team stepped it up near the end. The second half seemed much better, much faster and the team looked stronger. MLS

I watched, in addition to all the Olympics, two MLS matches last night. First was Columbus/Dallas. I saw most of it, but turned on the DC game when it started and only paid attention when Amanda told me what was going to happen (my stream was behind the times). Columbus. It was really great to see them win. Click to continue reading...

the ladies and other things

Arsenal Ladies' season begins on Sunday (for those of you living in the UK, more about tickets here.) and the BBC has a nice preview about the Ladies. Basically, this is the first time UK teams will be able to pose a challenge for them. I'm excited, because it means the league is growing, but kind of sad because this could be the end of Arsenal's dominance. Click to continue reading...

Olympics and DCU

Let's talk about swimming! Oh, wait, wrong blog. But, man, that 4x100 team last night? Totally brilliant, I was yelling at my tv and Jason Lezak (and my mother, who was on the phone with me at the time). Anyway, back to less exciting things. First, the u23s. They were so close to being brilliant. And I don't care what anyone says, they should have and deserved to win. Click to continue reading...

First off, I love cycling. A lot. I love football, a lot. But I have to work. A lot. Those student loans won't pay themselves off (wouldn't that be great). But, if I didn't have to work, I probably would have stayed up all night. Because the Olympics Men's Road Race (you know, cycling) that started at 11 pm? Click to continue reading...
