We're new launching a new feature on Albion Road this week. Lee Price of football-previews.co.uk
will be bringing us a weekly set of previews of the weekend's action in the English Premier League
and elsewhere. In addition to the preview Lee will be contributing a monthly roundup of all the
biggest news in English football.

Financial troubles continue at Liverpool and Newcastle while mystery continues to surround the
ownership of both Notts County and Leeds United. Wyn Grant takes us through the
latest financial issues in his monthly roundup. The on-again off-again sale of Newcastle United is
now in the off position while Liverpool's poor start to the season is mirrored by a deepening
financial crisis.

A couple of months ago in the midst of a conversation with my friend Bill Turianski he mentioned
a radio show he listened to and a reference to the competitiveness (or not) of Major League Soccer.
I followed up asking what podcasts he listened to and he gave me a couple of suggestions to get me
started.

I wanted to share with everyone a fantastic little add-on I recently discovered for Firefox.
It's called Footie Fox and displays live scores of matches from dozens and dozens of league and
tournaments around the world - from the English Premier League to the Azerbaijan League and
everything in between.

I've set up an Albion Road pool on Flickr. I'm guessing most of you know what Flickr is, but if
not it's a website where you can share photos. If you already have some football-related photos on
Flickr, please join the Albion Road pool and add any photos you'd like. If you're not already a
member well this is a great reason!

We've got our first ever football map of Scotland this month by sports map guru Bill Turianski.
The simple and obvious fact of Scottish football, known to most if not all of you, is the
overwhelming dominance of Glasgow's Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers. And it shines right through on
the map and attendance table.

It looks as if Arsenal may soon lose its status of being the only top four club controlled by an
English board, while Liverpool continues its search for a purchaser. At Arsenal, American sports
entrepreneur Stan Kroneke is close to winning the battle with Moscow-based billionaire Alisher
Usmanov to control Arsenal.

Now that the football gods have decided to share their love with satellite broadcasting there is
a glut of high-level football to be had from the safety of one's own home or favorite watering
hole. The problem is that time zones, work hours, and weekend plans tend to interfere with one's
ability to sit down and watch games.

Growing up playing soccer in the United States is both a blessing and a curse. Most of us became
fans of the most popular sport in the entire world, yet in the United States the sport has a third
tier status that receives only a fraction of coverage and attention of the major sports in the US.
I am old enough to remember the rise and fall of the North American Soccer League.

Sports coverage across the globe has taken an odd sheen in the age of the internet. There is so
much more information available to everyone that not very much escapes our notice. One can look up
scores from around the world and hundreds of goal highlights. I love seeing the goals, but don't
really enjoy reading all the anonymous negativity and pointless punditry that the internet seems to
facilitate.

Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid is a landmark transfer in many
ways. Financially speaking, at a credit crunch-busting £80 million it is the most expensive
transfer in world football history. In terms of precedent it is huge. As one of the biggest clubs
in football it is almost unheard for a player at the top of his game to want to leave Old Trafford,
let alone for Sir Alex Ferguson to allow it.

The United States is sometimes derided for its lack of football culture and traditions. For at
least one night, the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup filled that void admirably as Seattle Sounders F.C.
defeated D.C. United 2-1 in the 96th edition of the oldest competition in American football.
Spurred by a war of words between the two team's front offices, the game drew more interest than
the U.

The battle over the future of English football hotted up this month as Uefa president Michael
Platini threatened to boot Premiership clubs out of the Champions League. Platini would say that
all he is aiming for is a level playing field in the competition and it is true that he has other
targets such as AC Milan and Real Madrid.
