A good deal of our attention has been happily distracted from March Mayhem to March Madness.Â
Thank goodness for basketball. It temporarily shifts our focus away from the mayhem on local
roads and bridges once the spring thaw is in full swing.
Winter's fury and the relentless beating our infrastructure has taken from ice, snow, sand, salt
and heavy equipment are obvious to anyone who ventures out before the patching crews have been out
in full force.

The State Senate passed the FY2009-10 public protection budget today that includes many
important reforms that will help our state and its public safety officers meet 21st Century needs.
Most significant among these changes is the historic reform of the archaic, costly and

Erie County Legislators John J. Mills, 13th District, Edward A. Rath III, 15th District, and
Raymond W. Walter, 4th District, were prevented from voicing their opposition to the proposed 2009
New York State Budget at session today. In a procedural move, an item expressing disapproval of
the budget was referred to the Legislature's Finance and Management committee.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today took action to pass the DREAM Act. Senator Gillibrand
became a co-sponsor of the legislation, which would provide better educational opportunity for New
York's immigrant students.
"Every student deserves the opportunity to achieve his or her God given potential," Senator

Buffalo has a ton of collection agencies. Most are reputable companies who follow the rules and
laws while trying to collect old debt.
But Chris Hansen of Dateline NBC did a 6 part series on "the Debt Trap" and included two local
debt collection companies who were caught on hidden cameras engaging in some not so tasteful
tactics.

Clifford Law Offices, a nationally recognized aviation firm in Chicago, filed a lawsuit in federal
court in New York today (Tuesday, March 31, 2009) on behalf of the family of Jennifer Neill, 34, of
Buffalo, who was 27 weeks pregnant with her first child. The complaint alleges a series of charges
that focus on the failure of the airlines, the aircraft manufacturer and others for failing to take
the necessary steps to protect its passengers in the event of the loss of speed on landing with a
wing contaminated with ice and snow.

Bombardier Dash 8-Q400, N200WQ, d.b.a. Continental Connection flight 3407, crashed during an
instrument approach to runway 23 at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport (BUF), Buffalo, New
York. The crash site was approximately 5 nautical miles northeast of the airport in Clarence
Center, New York, and mostly confined to one residential house.
