Athletic Bilbao-Barcelona

Bilbao had one of the hottest starts of any La Liga squad, but the squad has not proven that they can consistently score with only eleven goals on the year as a team. Barcelona has a few guys that are not too far from that total including newly acquired forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It is one of the biggest rivalries in all of Spanish football.  But this season Atletico Madrid will receive more punishment for fans involvement in the derby then the 3-2 loss the reeling club has already suffered. In the second half of the match Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini was struck in the side of the face by an object flung from the stands.

The deal would make the Argentina striker the highest-paid player in the Barclays Premier League at more than £170,000-a-week.

Van der Vaart Looks to Remain in Madrid

La Liga Report @ 06:00 AM EST

Rafael Van der Vaart is a good sport. After being pushed to the side like an old piece of furniture and neglected from many of the powerhouse's preseason matches, the star Dutch midfielder still wants to stick around and help out real Madrid as a part time player.Â

In the modern day this notion is nearly unheard of.

Valencia Prepares for Fire Sale

La Liga Report @ 06:09 AM EST

Valencia has had a rough year in the books, but so far not on the pitch. The perennial powerhouse squad has the potential to finish the season a top four squad with a birth in next year's UEFA Champions League. But if Valencia is going to lock up that bid then they will most likely need to do it without many of their key players.

Run, Ronaldo, Run

La Liga Report @ 06:34 AM EST

Cristiano Ronaldo is fearless. Take this picture for example. Is that a man purse? No it is not.Â

It is a tote bag a man is using to carry his personal belongings in. A purse is much more feminine then this item and this, sir, belongs to a world champion footballer.Â

So now that we've got that out of the way you know Real Madrid's record signing doesn't fool around.

It has been a year filled with unfortunate events so far this football season and I am sad to report that La Liga has lost another former player. Robert Enke who was currently with German squad Hannover 96 has died from an apparent suicide. Enke, well known for his role as Germany's starting keeper as of January 2009, played for two different La Liga squads over the course of his career and was considered by many football critics one of the most dependable keepers not only in Germany, but in the entire world.

What can be said about Luis Fabiano? The guy is red hot and he and everyone else in La Liga is perfectly aware of this fact. Fabiano scored two goals this weekend against the Yellow Submarines and Sevilla edged out the blossoming squad 3-2 thanks to the offensive performance from the Brazilian.

Real out of Copa del Rey

La Liga Report @ 08:11 PM EST

Real Madrid were jeered off by their own fans after being dumped out of the Copa del Rey by minnows Alcorcon after only managing a 1-0 fourth round second leg win at an expectant Bernabeu.

Madrid suffered one of the biggest humiliations in their history after losing the first leg 4-0, and the Spanish giants could not undo the damage as battling Alcorcon frustrated their big-spending neighbours.
