Olympic semifinal beatdowns

0
What can you say? Sergio Aguerro pretty much beat Brazil single-handedly. I don't think anyone expected that kind of domination.

The Nigeria goal-fest against Belgium was less of a surprise. And there were definitely had some beauties in this one, so you should go check 101 Great Goals for the highlights. Click to continue reading...

VIDEO: Oldham has some new tricks

Gary Oldham is English?

Who woulda known? That performance in Air Force One had me sold.

Apparently he is. And was married to Uma Thurman once.

And he's doing some soccer spot. So enjoy!

Dean Ashton leads a cruel life

1
Three Lions fans have been praying for a quality forward for years.

For Ashton, this was going to be the year. Focused to impress the national team's new coach, nothing it seemed could hold the 24-year-old back.

He even gave up his favorite food -- pizza -- in an effort to be in the best shape possible, after English coach Fabio Capello told him to lose some weight. Click to continue reading...

Xavi roasts 'dinho...

1
Says the Brazilian partied himself out of form:

"He always told us, 'that's the way I am'.

"When you lead that sort of life you have to understand that when your level drops then the knives will be out. He is like that, he likes going out and enjoying life.

...

"He has his own private life that should not be interfered with, but it is true that private life also affects his sporting performances," added Xavi.

VIDEO: Brazil + Argentina = awesomeness

2
Reuters is getting pretty excited about a men's Olympic semifinal between Brazil and Argentina.

Rightfully so. Should be exciting and the winner should win the final fairly easily -- don't make me regret that Nigeria.

Then again, like Pies, I'm more excited for a cards, Jenga, Connect Four showdown between Anderson (Brazil) and Tevez (Argentina). Click to continue reading...

U.S. women to face Brazil in final!

2
After a gutty come-from-behind semifinal win over Japan the USMNT is in the Olympic final (for the 4th time in four tries).

Against Brazil.

In case you forgot, one Miss Hope Solo threw quite a fit after being benched in the World Cup semi against Brazil.

Now's her chance to prove herself right. Click to continue reading...

Sounders v. Quakes

2
Time for Seattle to beat down another MLS team.

This time in a September 2nd friendly at Buck Shaw Stadium.

And yes, this is the start of a rivalry. Maybe not a blood, sweat and tears one, but one nonetheless.
"We are excited to welcome Seattle to MLS next season," said Earthquakes Executive Vice President David Alioto.

VIDEO: USMNTers talk trash... just about Ruiz

No not really.

But if you add Tim Howard you have a complete progression of hair (with Hippie Hejduk and Flux Capacitor Donovan).

I'm hoping for at least a three-goal margin. Gotta dominate CONCACAF. Click to continue reading...

MLS round-up: Week 21

2
A lot of crazy stuff going on around the league. Jeff Cunningham (top left) became the 4th player in league history to get 100 goals, which is one helluva feat for an often maligned player.

Also we saw the debut of Brian McBride (top right) for the Fire. Unfortunately, Chicago might have a racism issue going on. Click to continue reading...

Onyewu to Lazio?

16
I don't see it happening, and if it did, it would be unfortunate 'cause I don't want racist fans (more than normal) cheering him on.

I guess that would happen at PSG too. Click to continue reading...

Premiership rules v1.0

1
Chelsea 4, Portsmouth 0 -- The Blues lived up to their payroll with a thorough whipping. Roman the billionaire stays happy with Scolari (top middle) for at least a week.

Aston Villa 4, Manchester City 2 -- Agbonlahor (top left) says even "If you can't pronounce my name, you will respect me" -- with a hat-trick in 7 minutes, I do. Click to continue reading...

When you think of sleek German sportcars...

0
...you obviously think of this guy.

Wayne Rooney is gonna be the next face of Mercedes.

It couldn't be a German guy? Or an attractive guy? And I'm not the only one perplexed by this move...

Brand analyst Peter York called it ‘extremely strange'.

He said: ‘Ordinarily you'd expect Mercedes to choose someone aspirational and classy to advertise its cars, and it's fair to say Wayne Rooney doesn't fit that category.
