How does this look for a best XI lineup. Â This is the group that was named to the MLS best XI for this 2009 season. Â Only a single player from the best XI will be represented in the MLS Cup this Sunday. Â That is of course Landon Donovan US player of the decade.

Chicago Fire join the playoffs

The Fire joined the 2009 MLS Cup Playoffs tonight with a victory over Chivas USA. A single point would have put them in, but they ended up with a 1-0 victory on an own goal scored by Eduardo Lillingston in the 67th minute.

Here is the updated standings:

Chivas USA and Seattle Sounders FC join playoffs

Chivas USA and Seattle Sounders FC both have guaranteed themselves a spot in the 2009 MLS Cup Playoffs. They are joining defending champions Columbus Crew along with Houston Dynamo and LA Galaxy.

That leaves 3 positions up for grabs on the last weekend of the year. Those 3 spots that are up for grabs will have 7 teams possibly still alive to grab one of them.

Galaxy, Dynamo and Crew reserve spots in playoffs

Three teams have booked their spots in the 2009 Major League Soccer playoffs. The defending champions Columbus Crew are in and currently leading the whole league with 46 points and even a game in hand over several of the teams chasing them. At 44 points the champions of 2006 and 2007 Houston Dynamo are in.

This table doesn't take into effect any of the games that will be taking place today. Â Ten teams will be seeing action later today while there is only one game tomorrow.

Kenny Cooper is leaving Major League Soccer to join the former home of Kansas City Wizards striker Josh Wolff. Cooper will join 1860 Munich for reportedly somewhere a little over $1 million.

What is FC Dallas going to do without Cooper? Without Cooper on the team Jeff Cunningham is the leading scorer with 4 goals on the season.

Bad day for MLS in US Open Cup

Several MLS teams took place in the 3rd round of the US Open Cup today. A few of those teams will play again in the 4th round several will not.

Defending MLS Champions Columbus Crew went to OT and then to PKs against the always dangerous Rochester Rhinos. The Rhinos came out on top in PKs at 5-3 to move on.

The official MLS website has a nice little pub guide that tries to list the pubs that are very soccer friendly. We all know it can be tough to find a bar that you can watch a soccer game at with sound. Usually you get some weird looks if you ask for Fox Soccer Channel. So this is a great idea to have a pub guide.
