Newcastle United's new owner Mike Ashley has said that he plans to hand Sam Allardyce a £50
million purse in order to start the rebuilding of the club (mirror.co.uk). Ashley has the long term

Newly acquired LA Galaxy defender Abel Xavier, formerly of Middlesbrough, recently spoke to
England's The Sun claiming that Beckham's arrival to the team could be the turning point of the
season. However, most interesting was the quote in which Xavier proceeded to give the reporter the
laundry list of what would improve the Galaxy:

Arsenal is now offering Arsene Wenger a £25,000 a week pay raise, a £30 million purse for summer
spending and a clause that would release him next year if he chooses to leave (dailymail.co.uk).
The pay raise would increase Wenger's weekly earnings to £75,000 (a 50% pay raise).

been struck that will see Klose join the team July 1st. Werder Bremen has agreed to sell their
German international striker for an undisclosed fee to the Bavarian giants in order to gain some

Peter Crouch's name has come up in Liverpool's hunt for Fernando Torres (sportinglife.com). The two
club's are reportedly £8 million away in their valuation of Torres, which seems to have prompted
Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre to push for Crouch's arrival as part of the deal instead of
Rafael Benitez's initial offer of Luis Garcia. However, Benitez has made his intentions of
acquiring a crowd of top-notch attacking players public, which may send the deal into further
negotiations.

Oswaldo Sanchez and Mexico have now been beaten in their last two tournaments by wonderful volleys.
Many of you probably remember the volley by Maxi Rodriquez in the 2006 World Cup that sent
Argentina past Mexico and was named among the goals of the tournament by several media sources.
Then, this past Sunday Sanchez was beaten by a Benny Feilhaber volley that proved to be the 2 to 1

Finally something truly newsworthy from a rather dull week. Thierry Henry has, through several
sources, reportedly agreed to a deal with Barcelona which will see Arsenal receive £16 million for
the French ace.
Rumors had been swirling for a year, and more intensely over the past months as close friend and

Chelsea have been awarded a top-8 seed by UEFA for next year's Champions League (mirror.co.uk).
This will grant the blues an easier group stage and guarantee that they will not have to go up
against top teams, like Barcelona in past years, until the group stage.
Also, an interesting side note: England is the only country to have all 4 of its teams seeded for
next year (Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United).

In a TimesOnline interview, Samuel Eto'o made it clear that he will not be leaving Barcelona by his
own will. In fact, the Cameroon international said that "The club cannot force me to do anything,
nobody can."
For some time rumors have been swirling about foreign interest in the egotistical striker, who
addressed that issue by saying that "someone is building a huge lie, so big that everybody believes
it – only I will decide my future and I will continue here.

Barcelona head official Joan Laporta has said that "The club wants Ronaldinho and Eto'o to stay and
the coach agrees" (sportinglife.com). This statement effectively ends the summer transfer rumors
involving Eto'o to Arsenal or AC Milan, and Ronaldinho to Milan. As well, Laporta has confirmed the
coach Frank Rijkaard will remain Barcelona's boss.
