Why do the media never criticise Steven Gerrard?

The Ed is quite right not to encourage any finger pointing after last night's game. All the players were pants, as simple as that. What does intrigue me is how honest the media are when players suffer the ignominy of an ‘off day'. It seems like some are fair game to criticise and chastise whereas others, just as guilty of underperforming, are somehow forgotten about and conveniently dismissed.
