Why so many penalties?

I'm not a big fan of statistics – maybe it harks back to my early days at school struggling with maths (after all – what use is Pythagoras's Theorem day to day?) but we are racking up one statistic of particular note: the number of penalties we have been conceding. The one we gave one away against Porto last night was the fourth in the last eight matches (including the qualifiers against Toulouse).
