The Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson trained with the England team the other day and most papers reported it as just being part of the settling-in process with a view to joining up with England for the next World Cup Qualifiers next month, but it seems that was wrong.

The Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker missed that training session through injury and Hodgson had asked Jenkinson to come in as cover for Glen Johnson, and was hoping to officially give him his first senior cap against Poland tomorrow as Hodgson is set to name a completely different team to the one that faced San Marino.
