U.S.national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann on Monday released the 24-man roster for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and there were several surprises among the forwards chosen.

Jozy Altidore and Terrence Boyd, who have been favorites of Klinsmann, were not selected. Altidore's exclusion was particularly shocking as he is tied for most goals in the Dutch first division with eight, although his performances for the national team have been criticized by some.
