The Red Bulls ended any hope Portland or Chicago had of making the playoffs, becoming the 10th team to qualify for the postseason by beating Philadelphia. A Dane Richards header eight minutes in deflected off Philadelphia goalkeeper Fared Mondragon for the game's only goal. New York's Frank Rost picked up the shutout in front of 25,044 fans at Red Bull Arena.
