For a man almost two metres tall, built like a rugby player and capable of putting the fear of God into any defence in England, it seems strange that Andy Carroll would require defending. It is the most recent example of the British media's lazy lapses into boredom that produce stories such as the ones that have emerged this week regarding the striker's drinking habits.
