Gary Cahill stepped out of the international shadows in Sofia to stake his claim to be Rio Ferdinand's successor. Cahill struck up an instant bond with restored England skipper John Terry as the Three Lions kept a clean sheet in Bulgaria and served notice that he has what it takes to eventually replace 81-times capped Ferdinand, who will be 33 in November.
