I'm confused: Why would Liverpool want to sell Raul Meirelles?

Raul Meirelles was one of Liverpool's most consistent and effective players last season, and despite the miniscule playing time he's been granted so far this season, the Portuguese has continued to perform well. With that in mind, why exactly does he need to be sold?!

Against Arsenal today, Meirelles had more impact in 19 minutes than Jordan Henderson did in the entire game.
