Drawn into Group A, the Galaxy face Alajuelense of Costa Rica, the winner of the preliminary round series between the Mexican Clausura runner-up (either Morelia or Pumas) and the Caribbean club championship runner-up, as well as the winner of the preliminary round series between Honduran Clausura champion Motagua and Guatemala's Municipal.
