United, Dallas play to scoreless draw

WASHINGTON - Resolute defending controlled the proceedings as D.C. United and FC Dallas played to a scoreless draw Saturday that was largely devoid of risks in the attacking third and, concurrently, quality scoring opportunities for either side.

United� nearly won the contest� in the 89th minute when Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman denied substitute Fred's point-blank header at the far post.
