Flashback: Schalke vs Valencia (UEFA Cup 1996/1997)

Schalke 04 and Valencia met once before in the knockout stages of a European competition. It was the quarter final of Schalke's triumphant 1996/1997 UEFA Cup season. Valencia commanded some respect after knocking out holders Bayern Munich in the first round. The first leg was played in Gelsenkirchen and Valencia started the brighter of the two teams with Leandro having a great chance in the 2nd minute.
