The Columbus Crew announced Sigi Schmid would not return as head coach for the 2009 season (ASN, Dec. 10, 2008).
Schmid was hired as the Seattle Sounders head coach just one week later, the first of many right moves made by the expansion club. The Crew hired Robert Warzycha to replace Schmid.
