With only three days rest following their win in the UEFA Supercup, FC Barcelona was back to work this time opening up their 2009/2010 La Liga season at home against Sporting Gijon.
Manager Pep Guardiola was without key players Lionel Messi, Rafael Marquez, Andres Iniesta and Thierry Henry, who started on the bench.
