Recession bites in Southend

The recession is biting Southend hard, as new figures highlight the problems seaside resorts face up and down the country.

Claimant unemployment in Southend has soared by 80% in the last 12 months to just over 3,300*, according to a study conducted by the trade union, the TUC.
