North East trio try to avoid southwards trip
The compact nature of this season's Premier League meant the relegation battle would go all the way to the final day. The division's three teams from the north east, Middlesbrough, Newcastle United and Sunderland, have had relegation worries of varying degrees all year and each will surely be involved in the final survival reckoning.
