March 11, 2009 — Sweden defeated the United States 4-3 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie on Wednesday night in the final of the Algarve Cup women's soccer tournament. Sweden took the lead via a 19th-minute goal by Lotta Schelin. However, the heavily favored United States rallied until Shannon Boxx tapped in a 90th-minute equalizer.
