Keys to Victory: 5 things D.C. United must do to advance past Queretaro in the CONCACAF Champions League

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

The Black-and-Red need a bunch of goals tonight, but they also have to balance that with the need to keep a clean sheet.

The situation D.C. United faces tonight is not a good one. Queretaro has a 2-0 lead after the first leg of this CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal pairing. We've seen this story too often in the past few years, and for United the ending has always been the same.

Ben Olsen turned to the unlikely pair of Marcelo Sarvas and Nick DeLeon to man the midfield in the first leg of the Champions League against Queretaro

Going into the first game of the season against Queretaro, the biggest questions about D.C. United's roster focused on the center of the midfield.

United will once again look to come back from a daunting first leg deficit, this time against los Gallos Blancos.

This is familiar territory for D.C. United. Following a first leg loss in Mexico, the Black-and-Red need to beat Queretaro to advance in the CONCACAF Champions League, and they need to do so decisively.

Opposition 11: What will Queretaro's starting lineup look like against D.C. United in the CONCACAF Champions League?

A game on the weekend and a couple of knocks have made los Gallos Blancos a little less predictable for the 2nd leg.

Thanks to a game Saturday night and a few injuries here and there, Queretaro will face D.C. United with some tricky questions to sort out. Los Gallos Blancos made the 3 hour drive down to Morelia on the weekend and worked very hard before coughing up a 90th minute goal to draw 1-1.

Mornings aren't for me. Or at least, a normal American working person morning isn't for me. At long last, the season begins!

There's not much more to say about D.C. United and the CONCACAF Champions League. As you'll see below, we've already put together a novella on tonight's game with Queretaro. After an offseason of over 3 months, United is back on the field in a game you can look at two ways: It's daunting because it involves opening the season against a Liga MX opponent, but it's also a game against an opponent in mediocre form who, stylistically, is a pretty good match-up for the Black-and-Red.
