This time, the opponent was the New England Revolution. The score was 2-1. It was United's 15th loss out of 21 league matches, for a 71% losing rate.

Luis Silva, ladies and gentlemen! In the post-game press conference, Ben Olsen referred to Silva as "a piece," and it's pretty clear that if he keeps up his level of play since joining D.C. United earlier this month, he's going to be a centerpiece for 2014 and beyond. His goal early in the first half gave United a 1-0 lead over the New England Revolution, a lead they would take into halftime before remembering that they're really just not that good at defense attack soccer.

It's tempting to try and forget about D.C. United's performance last week in Chicago, a 4-1 loss that was all but decided after just 13 minutes. But since then, we've had long-awaited manna from heaven in the form of an announced framework for D.C. United to finally - finally! - build the stadium we fans have been waiting for for a decade.

Remember June? No? Well, you should. First of all, it was only a month ago, and more importantly for the purposes of this piece, it was also D.C. United's best month in 2013. An extraordinarily low bar, to be sure, but in a season where we're racing to the bottom, June was the one month where we were just a mediocre MLS team: 3W-1D-3L, and a shocking +1 goal difference.

To state the obvious, 2013 has been an incredibly disappointing season for D.C. United and its fans. Coming off a very strong 2012, expectations were sky high for the Black and Red. In fact, our preseason crowd-sourced Eastern Conference prediction had United as the best team in the conference. And, while our Black & Red United community could be forgiven for being overly optimistic about our hometown team heading into the season, many non-biased MLS observers also predicted D.
