Andy Najar is officially an Anderlecht player, & he wrote an open farewell letter to D.C. United fans

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

Well, it's official: Andy Najar is wearing the purple of RSC Anderlecht on a permanent basis. D.C. United announced this afternoon that the Honduran has been sold from one capital club to another. As per tradition (and league policy), details of the deal have not been disclosed, but I imagine we'll hear rumors and reports trickling out soon enough.

Andy Najar to RSC Anderlecht is all but official; how will D.C. United cope?

Steve Goff over at the Post's Soccer Insider blog is reporting that on this second-to-last day of the European transfer window, D.C. United and RSC Anderlecht are finalizing a deal to transfer Andy Najar to the reigning (and 31-time) Belgian champs. The transfer fee looks to be in the neighborhood of $2 million - I'm guessing a bit more - well below some of the earlier rumored amounts.

First Kick 2013 Countdown: 31 Days - Where does Joe Willis rank among MLS backup goalkeepers?

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

Joe Willis is a rather large gentleman. If you pay attention at all to his blonde facial hair, he also frequently looks like he's spent considerable time lost in the Rocky Mountains, which is borderline conceivable for the Colorado native and University of Denver product. He might actually be Bigfoot, now that I think about it.

USA vs. Canada 2013: Final score, recap & highlights - Camp Strudel ends with dreadful 0-0 dra.... zzzzzzzzzz

Black and Red United at related • 1 view

You're forgiven if you don't recall much of anything about last night's 0-0 draw between the U.S. Men's National Team and Canada. When people started tweeting out pictures of storm clouds rolling in during the hours before kickoff, we may have thought we'd see something interesting happen, but even in rainy Houston, the match was utterly forgettable.

Did D.C. United change their mind and accept Anderlecht's offer for Andy Najar last night?

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

When I went to bed last night, after that dreadful game between the United States and Canada, the only word on Andy Najar was that D.C. United had rejected another offer from Anderlecht and that Najar would be coming back to the United States on Thursday. However, if a story from the Belgian site DH.

Andy Najar receives Honduras call-up, may have one final offer from Anderlecht

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

In what is being described as a surprising move in the Honduran press, Andy Najar has received a call-up to their National Team's game against the United States on February 6. This will be both team's first game of the Hexagonal, the final round of Concacaf qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Should Najar make the field, this would be his first appearance in a World Cup qualifier, making it likely that he is being groomed for a possible role in the rest of qualification and the World Cup itself.

Nick DeLeon receives another call-up for Trinidad and Tobago; will he go?

In what seems to have become a D.C. United preseason tradition, the Trinidad and Tobago National Team has decided to call-up Nick DeLeon. Last preseason, before DeLeon had played an MLS game, Trinidad and Tobago attempted to call-up DeLeon for the Soca Warriors Olympic qualifying campaign. DeLeon declined the offer and then went on to have a first season that had him as a potential candidate for the current Camp Cupcake.

D.C. United Loses First Preseason Match 1-0 To The Columbus Crew

Missing five starters and giving minutes to every healthy player and trialist, D.C. United fell 1-0 to the Columbus Crew this morning in the first preseason match for both sides. Crew trialist Sercan Guvenisik scored the game's only goal on a 66th minute penalty kick.

D.C. United Releases Long Tan

The writing was on the wall earlier today, when D.C. United traded our unwanted lunch items a 2014 draft pick to Chivas USA to pick up Casey Townsend. Hours later, United announced that striker Long Tan has been released.

Washington Spirit acquire attacking talent in NWSL draft

The NWSL draft happened this morning at a much quicker pace than the MLS draft the day before. The Washington Spirit concentrated on taking attacking players, having filled out some key defensive positions in last week's allocation. The team also seems to have tried to take players who are from the greater Washington area, perhaps in order to make the league more economically viable for the players as well as the club.

As was established in part one of this series, it's the first time in years that D.C. United has been stuck with a truly difficult-to-predict selection in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft. Four picks are held by teams with brand-new head coaches, four more are held by second-year coaches, and that's not even counting sides with a history of unpredictable draft behavior (like Real Salt Lake and the Seattle Sounders).
