This week the Philadelphia Union attached way to much hoopla to the signing of a 15 year old who
was already in their youth development system. Â Congratulations to Zach Pfeffer, who is the fourth
youngest signing in MLS history. There is a small amount of newsworthiness in that Zach is the
Union's first homegrown player, but, like any player this young, it remains to be seen if he
amounts to anything.
Today we received the disappointing, but not totally unexpected, news that the 2018 and 2022
World Cups will be held in Russia and Qatar, respectively.Â When reports of FIFA corruption
surfaced in recent months, it was telling that few people seemed surprised.Â It has long been
assumed that FIFA is a fundamentally corrupt organization.

The Union's Chris Seitz and Fred will be available in MLS's first reentry draft.Â The first
stage of the draft will be held on December 8, with a follow-up round on December 15.Â The
availability of Fred is no surprise.Â There are rumors that he is headed back to Australia in the
The Philadelphia Union has lost four players since the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.Â Shea
Salinas and Alejandro Moreno were selected in the Expansion Draft, and, this week, Chris Seitz and
Fred also left the club via the new Reentry Draft.Â So far the club has added only one player,
Brian Carroll, at the crowded defensive midfielder position.
