Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful his team can prevent neighbours Manchester City from becoming the dominant force in English football, in much the same way he did with Jose Mourinho's Chelsea team.

The London club won two titles under Mourinho after spending big on players, but Sir Alex rebuilt his squad and wwnt on to win the Premier League in 4 of the next 5 years.

Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson is reportedly on the verge of a move to Everton after undergoing a medical at Goodison Park on Thursday night.

The Irish midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford and was fined a week's wages last month after turning up for training worse for wear after a night out with team mates Jonny Evans and Wayne Rooney.
