You know the old line, "It was a game of two halves." And so it was on Saturday.

In the first half the Union managed five shots, only one of which was on goal.

Keon Daniel's placement at left fullback seemed to offer a steady assuredness from the back that resulted in fewer long balls over the top and, consequently, over the midfield.

It would be easy to ignore that the Union needed a Mwagical goal with eight minutes left to beat Chivas and earn a total of four points against three of the weaker teams in MLS. It would be so simple to point out completing just over two-thirds of your passes is rarely a formula for success.

Hot damn that was fun to watch! Pressure all over the pitch resulting in turnovers of every sort from an admittedly inferior team, but still.

Six goals is goals. And good finishing is good finishing.

And the Union needed a match like this one, BADLY.

More attempts = more shots on target = more goals

Through the first nine games of 2011, the Union scored only six goals.

The Philadelphia Union traveled to Exeter's Don Thomas Stadium Tuesday night for a friendly against its PDL affiliate Reading United AC. The temperature hovered around the high 80s throughout the night, but that did not stop a crowd of over 1,300 from cheering on Reading and the Union. Aside from the opportunity to see an MLS team compete against one of the nation's best PDL teams in close proximity, the friendly also provided a chance for both teams to broaden their respective fan bases.
