Wow—Props for a Philly player from a New York Paper! Apparently Union fans aren't the only ones to be surprised Le Toux didn't make the MVP short list. The New York Times Soccer Blog's report on the announcement of the end-of-the-year award nominees is essentially one long diatribe against the injustice of Le Toux not making the cut: "All Le Toux did was score 14 goals and dish out 11 assists, meaning that he had a foot in 25 of the Union's 31 goals.

MLS playoffs — What to watch & why

The Philly Soccer Page at related • 5 views

Philadelphia Union's season is over, but Major League Soccer goes on without them. The playoffs start tonight, and unlike in some past seasons, there are some damn good teams out there who are pretty fun to watch. Then again, there are some not worth your time. So for those who haven't yet fully abandoned American soccer for the European leagues now that the Union's season is over, here's a guide for the Philly fan on the upcoming playoffs.

It's official. Despite being fifth on the goal list with 14, fourth on the assist list with 11, fifth on the shots list with 90, first on the shots on goal list with 48, 20th on the game-winning goals list with three, and fifth on the game-winning assists list with four, Sebastien Le Toux is not one of the three MVP finalists.

Expansion draft preview: Philadelphia Union

The Philly Soccer Page at related • 0 views

Philadelphia Union could lose two players in the Nov. 24 expansion draft, as the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps will start filling out their roster. So that means the protected list is hugely important for the Union. We've obsessed a bit over this because the Union have so many talented young players, and depending on the club's priorities, they could lose someone much loved by fans.

Fight aneurysms: protect this man! (Photo: paul Rudderow)

WVHooligan predicts who the Union will protect in the Expansion draft. I can't say whether I don't like the list or disagree with it, but if the Union have to leave Shea Salinas and Sheanon Williams unprotected and lose them because of league rules about international players, I think I might have an aneurysm.

How can the team get its best players on the field? This is a question that Bob Bradley has been mulling over in the last few US national team matches versus Poland and Colombia. It is something that he must still be thinking about because no clear answer has emerged. Bradley also probably won't get a good opportunity to answer it in the upcoming match against South Africa because many of the presumptive national team regulars will probably be absent.

No, they didn't come.

Just 8,823 paid to see the U.S. men's national team play Colombia to a scoreless draw last night at PPL Park, the lowest turnout for a USMNT match since 2006. Last week, merely 2,505 came to see the U.S. women's national team draw 1-1 with China there.
