It had been a long time coming, but it looked like the addition of Oalex Anderson helped Seattle to finally get the ball in the net. Joevin Jones passed to Oalex Anderson near the 6-yard box, where his shot was parried into the path of Jordan Morris, who blasted it into the roof of the net for this third goal in as many games.
Facing a talented but struggling Columbus Crew and having already dropped six points at home, the Seattle Sounders faced what was pretty close to a must-win game on Saturday. The first half was a bit of a struggle, as the Crew missed a couple great chances to take the lead. But the Sounders absolutely dominated the second half, bossing possession and putting the Crew on their back foot.
As part of the Seattle Foundation's GiveBig day, which is Tuesday, May 3, today against Columbus is officially the GiveBig match for the Sounders. Whenever a Sounder scores today, the club and the Adrian Hanauer Foundation will donate $5,000 to that player's Seattle-area nonprofit of choice. If the Sounders earn a clean sheet, the donation will go to Stefan Frei's nonprofit.
Clint Dempsey is back in the Seattle Sounders starting lineup after getting a week off to rest an injury, but Sigi Schmid is still rolling out a depleted group for Saturday's match against the Columbus Crew. In addition to the expected absences of Brad Evans (suspension) and Andreas Ivanschitz (illness), Erik Friberg and Nelson Haedo Valdez were also left out of the starting lineup.
The 1 PM game is on JOEtv (10/22/110) and ROOT Sports outside of the Greater Puget Sound.
Columbus Crew SC and Seattle Sounders FC will be forever connected. Seattle stole their coach and young midfielder Brad Evans (out this match). The Crew responded by winning the Supporters' Shield. The Crew lost the best defender to make MLS home (Chad Marshall) and then proceeded to start a new era of competitive soccer making the MLS Cup last year.
Two preseason MLS Cup contenders battle to get above the red line and right their currently flawed seasons. Saturday's day game starts at 1 PM on JOEtv (10/22/110) in the Greater Puget Sound and ROOT Sports in the rest of the Pacific Northwest. Columbus Crew SC are a single point ahead of Seattle with a 2-3-2 -2 record.
Seattle faces FC Kansas City for the first time since losing to them in the final. Time for some Reign redemption?
This Sunday, Seattle Reign FC head to Memorial Stadium for their second home match of the 2016 NWSL season. It will be a battle between the two-time NWSL Shield winners, Reign FC, and back-to-back NWSL champions, FC Kansas City.
Matches between these two have been hotly contested, but that intensity might not carry into Yankee stadium for the upcoming fixture.
The Reign's upcoming match versus Houston provides both clubs a measuring stick of each team's depth, with the absence of Jess Fishlock and Carli Lloyd respectively.

Andreas Ivanschitz's unavailability the only significant loss for the weekend
It's been a week of uncertainties for the Seattle Sounders regarding injuries, from the surprise unavailability of Clint Dempsey and Nelson Haedo Valdez last weekend to an apparent handful of issues for Andreas Ivanschitz.

Two preseason MLS Cup contenders battle to get above the red line and right their currently flawed seasons.
Back before the season started the Columbus Crew SC were among Eastern Conference favorites. The same was said of the Seattle Sounders. Now the two teams combined point totals wouldn't be enough for third place in the Supporters' Shield standings.
All the kids are using Snapchat. So we got Sounder at Heart's resident kid to use filters on Sounders players.
I know all of you have been wanting more than anything (other than 3 points) to spend a couple hours face-swapping and using Snapchat filters on Sounders players, so I did it for you (not gonna say I didn't thoroughly enjoy every minute).
At least it is not an ACL tear for the Seattle Reign midfielder?

Not surprising, but still disappointing news is that Ivanschitz is officially doubtful for the match this weekend against the Columbus Crew. Massive Report's podcast questions whether they REALLY hate Seattle or not.
"It helps to get the monkey off your back. There's a lot of pressure to get that first one, so that felt good."
Seattle Sounders rookie forward Jordan Morris scored his second goal of the season and of his professional career. His first, a week prior at CenturyLink Field against the Philadelphia Union, felt like a huge release of pressure for a player whose hype followed him every time he stepped onto the pitch.
"Soccer is a very different sport, it's the beauty of the sport."
Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid has been around the game for a long time, long enough to catch the minutiae and details that most people won't even notice upon close examination. For his team, Schmid stresses the importance of making strong decisions, because every single decision made on the pitch has repercussions that affect the outcome of a match.
Today, Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee heaped insult on top of injury when it issued Brad Evans with a fine for an undisclosed amount for using offensive, insulting and abusive language towards center referee Jorge Gonzalez in the 87th minute. The Sheriff's double-yellow means he will miss this weekend's match against his former club.
A Sounders team on an unbeaten streak takes on a tough Rapids side, fails miserably.
So much for streaks. So much for playing well. This week the mighty Seattle Sounders came crashing back down to earth after a promising stretch by losing on the road to the Colorado Rapids 1-3. This isn't the old Colorado team we are used to rolling over, though, this is a team that is 4-0 at home and has played strong attacking soccer all season.
"If we can continue to get 7 points every 4 games from here on out, we'll be in the playoffs."
Coming off the team's worst loss of the young MLS season, Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid was in a pretty positive mood on Monday after the team's first training session since Saturday's loss to the Colorado Rapids: "I think we've been in every game that we've played so far, and even though we lost the first three games I wasn't that disappointed in [the team].
Justice for Hillsborough families, Fairy tales for Leicester City and their fans, and Goals of the Week.
Decades of deceit was righted on Tuesday. A 27-year struggle for truth by the families of the 96 people killed at the Hillsborough football stadium has been vindicated after new inquests into the disaster determined that they had been unlawfully killed.
S2 is now 1-3-1 -5 heading for their first road game. The Monarchs are 2-2-1 +0. Game time is 6 PM Pacific.
Plenty of attacking chances mattered little, as the keepers defined the Tuesday matchup.
Offense continued to be a struggle for Sounders 2 on Tuesday night, but a solid defensive performance in Utah gave the club a point and a 0-0 result against Real Monarchs. There were plenty of chances to take three points from Rio Tinto Stadium, but a young trio of strikers struggled with decision-making all night long, often taking too long to make pass-shoot decisions and sometimes not making decisions at all.
Tonight's 6 PM Pacific match between S2 and the Monarchs is more interesting for off-field reasons than those on the pitch.
When now Seattle Sounders President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey left Real Salt Lake they were in the process of setting up the Real Monarchs, their USL side. Since that time the Monarchs have signed a whopping 15 players from their Academy or last year's USL side.

Player in a nutshell: Young winger for Argentina side San Lorenzo.
Neither player should win the weekly contest, but you should stuff the ballot box anyway.
Jordan Morris scored his second goal in two games. It was a good goal. It probably wasn't of the quality to win Goal of the Week, but the devious editors at MLSsoccer.com had other ideas. They pitted Morris against Kevin Doyle.
Things are not going well in Sounders-land at the moment. Even when mostly healthy, winning on the road against Colorado wasn't looking particularly likely. But even with the squad that traveled, a draw seemed very much within reach. Of course, we all know what happened in the end.
Now that the pain of that loss has dulled slightly, it's time to tackle rating the players.
Following the 3-1 loss the Seattle Sounders suffered at the hands of Colorado Rapids, it's safe to say that the world is coming to an end. We had a good run, planet Earth. Thanks for the oxygen and water and stuff.
Our world has fallen into shadow, and most people in it died. The dead will not suffer the hardships of the terrible world that remains.
It seems like the poor-and-missed calls have been more blatant than ever in 2016.

ICYMI: The Seattle Reign picked up their first win of the season with a 3-0 drubbing of the Boston Breakers.
Sounders 2 survived an encounter with the Kitsap Pumas, emerging with a 1-1 draw.
A bunch of games had at least one PK and a couple were saved across the league (looking at you Frei and Rimando) while a handful of games had a team put up a trio or more goals.
Results around the league were hit and miss for the Sounders, who still have a game in hand on a lot of the West.
Two assists and a goal from Kim Little helped Seattle get its first 3 points on the season.
After a lackluster performance in their home opener, Seattle Reign FC came out hungry on the road and earned a 3-0 win over the Boston Breakers. The win put the Reign in third place, with six other teams at three points.
This is now the second-worst start in Seattle Sounders history, with only the 2012 campaign getting off to a slower beginning than the current seven points in seven matches.
There are extenuating circumstances, to be sure, but there is also plenty of cause for concern, especially after Saturday's disjointed outing.
After an uncharacteristic home opener, Seattle Reign FC travel to Boston in a quest to earn 3 points on the road.

The Reign go on the road looking for their first points of the season after letting the undefeated streak at Memorial fall last week.
Last weekend the Seattle Reign opened their 2016 season with a loss to Sky Blue — their first ever loss at Memorial Stadium. Now they look to recover on the road against the Boston Breakers, a team that's struggled in recent seasons and a promising source of road points.
"I thought we, as a unit, and I don't mean just the players, we as a unit€ -- coaching staff, players, you know -- we beat ourselves today." -Sigi Schmid
Not much went right in this match. The defense gave up three goals, the offense struggled to create dangerous chances, and the Sounders return home with no points.
With several injuries to manage Sigi Schmid turned to long-time pro and former United States National Team member Herculez Gomez for his first start with the Seattle Sounders. Clint Dempsey and Nelson Haedo Valdez both are absent from the starting lineup. Oalex Anderson earned another start.
Andreas Ivanschitz shifts back to the point of the midfield in front of Osvaldo Alonso and Cristian Roldan.
Well, that's not the ideal start we were hoping for. Jermaine Jones, who had a geat first game for Colorado last week, went unmarked on this set piece and was able to find the back of the net. Hard to say who was supposed to mark him, but Jones made that look too easy.
Colorado has made it look too easy tonight. The Sounders defense has been unable to keep the back line tight and they paid for it when Luis Solignac was alone after Dominique Badji sent a cross into the box.
After scoring his first goal in MLS last week, he finds the back of the net with a great individual effort. His goal keeps it close with Colorado still up 2-1.
Soon after Jordan Morris scored a goal to keep things close, Herculez Gomez was called for the PK in the box. Thankfully, Stefan Frei had something to say about that as he made the right choice and dove to his right for the save.
Sounders were hoping to even things up late in the match, but Colorado's Kevin Doyle makes a nice goal to shut the door on any chances to come away with a point in this match. It looked like Doyle was offside on the play as well.
In another MLS match marred by horrific refereeing, the Seattle Sounders lose to the Colorado Rapids. The 3-1 scoreline ignores that Kevin Doyle scored from an offside position. Brad Evans was so outraged that he immediately earned a yellow card for dissent. Not seconds later he earned a second yellow card, also for dissent.
The 6 PM game is on Q13 Fox (13/113) and Univision-Seattle (50/51/51.1).
Playing at a mile's worth of elevation can be rough. It's part of why teams in Denver tend to have great home records. It's also why the Colorado Rapids are better in the final 30 than their opponents (+1). Seattle Sounders FC will need to survive the 5280 with a reduced lineup.
Sounders matchup well against Mastroeni's mustache, Marc Burch's hair, and the Rapids defense.
Well I won't lie, the Rapids still suck. The problem is, they have more points than us. That can't stand. They can't stand. Mastroeni's boys are in 3rd in the West, 3rd! and they average one goal a match.
The Bent Musket helps us prepare for Seattle's first game on the road.

The Saturday 6 PM game between Western Conference foes is on Q13 FOX and Univision-Seattle. Colorado Rapids enter the match 4-2-1 +2 and are a perfect 3-0 at home this year. Seattle Sounders FC are 2-3-1 -1 and have yet to earn a road win. Former Sounder Marco Pappa is out injured. Both Clint Dempsey and Nelson Valdez are questionable in the game.
The commissioner weighs on where the MLS fits in U.S. player development, and spoiler alert: he's all for it.
Don Garber has not been afraid to insert himself into the debate around US player development in the past, and continued that trend yesterday, saying that the value of a young player consistently playing in the MLS is much more than being on the bench abroad.
A broken cart needs fixing, but sometimes a not-broken cart can still be tinkered with and improved. The Sounders have had their issues and this guide is an attempt to improve the team to unknown heights.
First of all, are the Sounders broken? No, they're not, so let me get that out of the way in order for you to stop your whinging at that headline.

Jordan Morris didn't just score snap a more than 700-minute scoreless run on Saturday. The half-volley past Andre Blake wasn't just Morris' first tally as a professional. It was also the first time CenturyLink Field fans got to really show their appreciation for the native son.
The worst thing a team can be is bad and boring - and for the first time in 2016, the Sounders turned in a performance to which neither adjective can be applied.
Through the first five games of the 2016 Seattle Sounders season, even the most generally optimistic fans would be hard pressed to argue that the performances were anything better than lackluster.
"When you know people hate you, you get respect from that." Herbalife may be sketchy, but they're doing better than ever. No Neymar at Copa America.
Did you know Cristian Roldan's older brother is an assistant athletic trainer with the Colorado Rapids? Me neither! But here is a Q&A with Cesar Roldan that reveals just that.

A game-by-game look at where Clint has played, and how effective he's been.
Clint Dempsey was one of the main creators for the Seattle Sounders attack last season, at least when he was healthy and not suspended. He consistently put himself in dangerous positions, made runs that gave his teammates space, and linked up with attackers to exploit defensive weaknesses.
The Saturday 6 PM game between Western Conference foes is on Q13 FOX and Univision-Seattle.
Off to a surprising start, the Colorado Rapids have 13 points in their seven games. They are all about stingy defense, grit and raw Pablo-monium. Even with a win the Seattle Sounders will not be above the red line.

If you're a fan of good things, I have some news for you! The Sounders played one of their better games this past weekend (and by that I mean they didn't lose) and came away with three points against the Philadelphia Union.
When Andy Rose signed with League One side Coventry City in January he seemed to be joining a team destined to move into the Championship. The Sky Blues were second in League One and had the best goal-difference at midseason.
But things have not gone quite as planned. Although Rose has found regular playing time -- logging nearly 500 minutes in nine appearances -- Coventry City has fallen to 11th place and at one point had won just two two of 10 matches.
Sounders keep the positive results coming, again knocking off a top Eastern Conference team with quality team play and solid contribution from a promising rookie.
Hey guys we are going streaking! (through the quad to the gymnasium). After beating the Philadelphia Union at home 2-1 on Saturday night, Seattle Sounders FC earned points in 3 straight.
At long last, Garth Lagerway has returned to Seattle. Where has he been? Who has he been in discussions with? It's all a wonderfully guarded black box for the time being -- but time will tell. For now, at Sounder at Heart we press on, doing what we do best -- we speculate wildly based on the breadcrumbs laid before us.

Morris' first professional goal came from a wide position.
When Jordan Morris scored his first professional goal, you could sense the relief. It was way back in December when he had last scored in a competitive match, going scoreless in a pair United States national team games, two more for the U23s and in his first seven Seattle Sounders matches.
MLS is standardizing its security theater policy in both Canada and the United States. These changes will be for all MLS or SUM matches conducted in stadia that host MLS teams. That means the new policy will be enforced for US Open Cup, CONCACAF Champions League, Canadian Championship games, friendlies and even non-soccer fan events.

For the player that was supposed to be the Seattle Sounders' creative hub since signing last summer, Andreas Ivanschitz endured a pretty tough start to the season.
Five-game packs go on sale today.
As was predicted when single-game tickets first went on sale in February, the Seattle Sounders will host five full-stadium games in 2016. The news was formally announced last week and tickets for the "five-match pack" went on sale today.
While not necessarily shocking news, it is still notable as this will be the one more full-stadium regular-season game than the Sounders hosted in 2015.

Seattle's 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union had a unique YouTubeing visitor from the UK. Mr. George Benson chronicled his flight in and his gameday experience on a video blog and shared it for all to see, and it's excellent fun.
Now with a point, Seattle Sounders FC 2 progressed to 0-4-1 -6 on the 2016 season. Sunday night's game against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks will be another test. The Switchbacks are 2-0-0 +3. They are also another independent team, so their focus on winning rather than development could cause S2 to struggle.
Houston moved in with Vancouver not too far behind for the West's basement. It's nice to have moved out.
Sounders won again!!!! That's what matters. Also, we're out of the basement and that's pretty cool. We may not be above the red line yet but it is encouraging.

The 24-game unbeaten streak at Memorial Stadium comes to an end.
Despite some early pressure to start the match, Seattle Reign FC looked out of sorts and fell 2-1 to Sky Blue FC in their NWSL home opener. Yes, the 24-game Memorial Stadium undefeated streak is over.
The Reign starting lineup was only slightly changed from the side that won a second straight NWSL shield last season.
The Reign's fourth season kicks off in perfect weather at Memorial Stadium this afternoon.
The Reign kick off the 2016 season and their second consecutive defense of an NWSL Shield this afternoon at home against Sky Blue FC.
Seattle has by far the most unchanged roster heading into the new season, as befitting a team that's won two shields and advanced to two straight finals.
You'd be forgiven for not even noticing it, but former Sounder Sebastien Le Toux took advantage of some poor defending by Seattle and fired in Philadelphia's first goal in the 73rd minute after CJ Sapong headed down a cross from Fabinho. Le Toux took his goal well, but seemed to land awkwardly and had to be substituted off immediately afterwards.
Chad Marshall scored in his second straight match to lead the scoring charts for Seattle.
In what was by far the most "feel good" match of the season, Seattle Sounders beat Philadelphia Union 2-1 for Seattle's second win of the season.
The first half was a little dicey at times, as Jordan Morris and Oalex Anderson had a few solid chances but didn't manage to put them away.
A badly needed win at home feels good. If not for a superb game from Philadelphia keeper Andre Blake, this match could have been lopsided. As it was, Chad Marshall finds another, Jordan Morris nets his first for Sounders FC, and Seattle continue to build an unbeaten streak.
Morris switched something on
From the outset, Jordan Morris looked like a different player.
"I am sure he feels more relief than I do. I am sure he is very, very happy. I know he had a couple of really, really good looks in the first half...It's great for him, it's great for our city, it's great for our team." -Sigi Schmid
The disappearing offense from the first few games of the 2016 season has resurfaced, and the Seattle Sounders could have piled on goals with a couple of better finishes or without the heroics of Andre Blake.

Saturday's March to the Match was different than any other for the Emerald City Supporters - it was silent, or more accurately there were not any formal chants. Sporting Kansas City, better known as the KC Wizards, are finally accepting their past bringing back some "beautiful" jerseys.
Playing from behind has played to the Seattle Sounders' weaknesses on offense.
At the heart of any model of expected goals lies a basic truth: shot location is a key determinant of scoring. The best possible shooter scores infrequently from outside the box. The most agile keeper struggles to stop shots at point-blank range.
Chad Marshall gets double Man of the Match honors after his goal snatched the road point for Seattle.
In my first watch of the Sounders' 1-1 draw against the Dynamo, I was pretty down on the team. I didn't think anyone would rate above average, and I thought some deserved very harsh grades.

Kevin De Bruyne played the hero Tuesday night. The Manchester City midfielder curled in a cracking shot from the top of the box ending Paris Saint Germain's dream.
Hat trick heroics carry Real Madrid into the final four of the Champions League.
When a team starts with three straight home games and gets three straight losses things are bad. They're worse than you think because Sounders 2 has yet to score a goal. Of the nine players to start at forward so far seven of them are from the first team (one was a college defensive midfielder). Only two USL teams have allowed more goals against per game (T2 and Harrisburg).
S2 draw 2-2 with Victor Mansaray finally opening the USL side's scoring account. Tony Alfaro scored the other goal for Seattle.
Seattle Sounders 2 needed to wait until their fourth match to score a goal. In that game they finally score twice and earn their first points of the season. Rio Grande Valley FC regularly challenged up their left side through Honduran Jose Escalante, but their goals came from S2's defensive errors.
With the transfer window closing on May 11th, Sounders FC's Designated Player search is in "overdrive."

To be good, or to not be good, that is the question. Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows or outrageous losses or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them; to play, to fight, to win.
This past weekend the Seattle Sounders traveled to face the Houston Dynamo in hopes of striking it rich.
As Sounders FC 2 prepare to face Rio Grande Valley FC there may also be non-soccer conversations between the two organizations. The Toros are owned by an NBA D-League team, but their soccer operations are the responsibility of the Houston Dynamo. If this concept sounds familiar, it is what could happen to S2 if the Tacoma Rainiers buy into ownership and build a stadium down in the South Sound.

DeAndre Yedlin's growth with Sunderland has been remarkable in the last year, thriving in a situation few thought he would.
As proud as we are of our Sound of Soccer, we rarely hear about the rest of the state and the beautiful game.
The Reign roster gets cut from 25 players to 18 as we head into the final week of preseason.
The Reign roster took some big cuts today, as they pared down from a 25-player preseason roster to an 18-player roster heading into the final week before the season opener on Sunday. The most notable changes were the upgrades of Carson Pickett and Lindsay Elston from non-roster invitees to players under contract.
The Seattle Sounders may still be hanging out at the bottom of the Western Conference at the moment, but a tough road point should give the team some momentum as they head back to Seattle. The overall performance from the visiting squad wasn't great, but wasn't terrible. How did the individual players stack up in this one?
No red cards this week, Vancouver gets crushed by DC, Seattle comes back, and more this week.
The Sounders came back and scored just as the final whistle was about to blow thanks to Chad Marshall. Still last in the West, but comfortably not in last across the league, Seattle sits with the rest of Cascadia below the magical red line.
"Were we at our best today? Probably not. Did we get a great result? Yes. So lets build off of that." -Herculez Gomez
They waited until the last possible moment, but the Seattle Sounders managed to will the ball in the goal to snatch a road point in Houston. The offense continues to sputter, but all goals (and points) count the same.
Tottenham topped the buslagged Manchester United, but couldn't gain ground on Leicester.
Scotland continues their perfect record in Euro qualifiers thanks in part to Reign FC's Kim Little and Rachel Corsie.
Local boy Kelyn Rowe is good at that soccer game, don't ya know, with perfect positioning and a strong, far-post header to score for the New England Revolution over the weekend.
The draw didn't cover up any poor play. Poor play still existed, but poor play can get points in MLS.
Chad Marshall's goal was a wonderful moment. With it the Seattle Sounders are now on a loss-less streak, undefeated in two games. But there are a few problems that are as evident today as they were prior to game, maybe even more so.
Chad Marshall punishes Joe Willis in the 94th minute to level the game 1-1.
A frantic final few minutes gave Chad Marshall the opportunity the Seattle Sounders needed. Rather than suffer through another loss late goal earned Seattle a 1-1 draw. Houston Dynamo lead early due to a Giles Barnes goal in the 35th minute.
Both teams only have one win, the game starts at 1 PM on ESPN. That's a lot of ones.
There was a time when a Houston Dynamo versus Seattle Sounders FC match would be an MLS Cup Playoff preview. Today is not that time. Both teams are below the red line. Few expect Houston to challenge in the West and Seattle is chock full of disappointment.
Without Nelson Haedo Valdez the Seattle Sounders will turn to Jordan Morris as the starter at center forward. The rest of the attack is similar to the win over the Impact. Andreas Ivanschitz and Aaron Kovar are the wingers with Clint Dempsey back as a goal-scoring center mid.
The rest of the midfield and defense is as expected with Joevin Jones again starting after getting a bit of rest in the win.
Sean Okoli made his professional debut with the Seattle Sounders back in 2014. But after a promising debut, the Homegrown Player slipped down the depth chart and was eventually traded to the New England Revolution before the start of the 2015 season. (The Sounders used the draft pick acquired for Okoli to select Tyler Miller.
It was a coming out party for the Reign's newest international player in front of a big crowd at the first match at Memorial in 2016.
In their final match of the preseason, the Seattle Reign hosted the Washington Huskies on a perfect, sunny evening at Memorial Stadium in front of 3,633 supporters.
Owen Coyle's Houston Dynamo host the Seattle Sounders in a Western Conference match. ESPN, not the deuce, has the 1 PM game on Sunday April 10th. Nelson Haedo Valdez will not start, which increases the chance that recent signing Herculez Gomez earns his first minutes for Seattle.
Houston is a curious side this year.
Full-sized ESPN hosts the match between perennial MLS Cup favorites (and failures) Seattle Sounders FC and the Owen Coyle led Houston Dynamo. The 1 PM Pacific game is early enough in the year that the oppressive heat of East Texas shouldn't be a factor. Houston is 1-2-1 +3 due to a blowout win over Dallas.
Farewell, irony. You had a good run.
Read more about the power within the relationship between Oalex Anderson and Ezra Hendrickson, and how that keyed his unbridled potential ending up in the MLS, then follow that up with more about how the Sounders are hoping to weigh the intangibles between Anderson and Jordan Morris while navigating the regular season.
Details are still pretty thin, but we have a decent framework for how this might look.
Ever since the Seattle Sounders made the decision to house their USL team at Starfire Sports Complex, it was one born of convenience more than anything else. The first team and the academy were already based there and the Sounders knew the stadium would at least work.
A triple header Sunday and The Beast makes his MLS debut. Three Big Storylines, National TV and Streaming Listing and From a Sounders Point of View are here in your MLS Week 6 Gamethread
Three Big Storylines:
- The Beast could make his debut on Friday night at the Philadelphia Union. Orlando City's new signing Julio "The Beast" Baptista is a 34 year old Brazilian striker who just so happens to be best buddies with one Kaká.
It's highly likely we'll see Jordan Morris start up top, but it's possible that Valdez could make the bench
On Thursday, head coach Sigi Schmid said that Seattle Sounders forward Nelson Haedo Valdez had a minor problem in training this week, but that it wasn't a long term concern. He implied that his status for the away match at Houston this weekend was doubtful, but Valdez was seen doing some light training on Friday.
Sounders FC previously explored placing their USL team in Gig Harbor, Boise, Bremerton and other outlying areas before setting on S2 being at Starfire. Tacoma has re-entered the picture with today's announcement from the Tacoma Rainiers and Sounders exploring a soccer-specific stadium down in the South Sound.
Project would include building a soccer-specific stadium.
Although it's unlikely anything will change in the next couple years, the Seattle Sounders are officially exploring the possibility of moving their USL team's games to Tacoma, according a letter distributed to members of the Sounders Community Trust.
The Sounders face a tough opponent in Houston. No identity, but a lot of goals.
Houston is a curious side this year. They have no one that makes you go, "Oh, sh...what the hell did he just do?" like Piatti was capable of last week. Under Owen Coyle they have struggled to find results and an identity.
Erick Thohir is also majority shareholder at Inter Milan. USL is expanding like crazy. All the best/worst MLS commercials from the last 20 years.
Jimmy Ockford is doing well in his return to the New York Cosmos. He started in the season opener against Ottawa, helping to keep the clean sheet in a 3-0 win.
The new kits, sponsorship, and marketing push show the Reign are ready to become a powerhouse in women's soccer.
Seattle Reign FC is about to enter its fourth year as a professional sports team, and if today's marketing announcements and actions are any indication, the team is ready to make a name for itself in global women's soccer and the Seattle sports community.
The Seattle Reign also announced other matchday changes that will enhance the fan experience
In addition to unveiling new kits and a big new sponsor in Microsoft, Seattle Reign FC announced a number of exciting changes to the matchday experience. The most important addition is a beer garden that will be similar to what fans experience at Starfire Stadium: outdoor and separate from the bleachers, but with a good view of the field.
It looks like the whole "Marco Pappa got stabbed and his Miss Washington girlfriend may have been involved" story is about to die a relatively quiet death. The King County Prosecutor's Office told the Denver Post that charges won't be brought against former Miss Washington Stormy Keffeler in connection to a stabbing incident that left the former Sounders midfielder with a 2- to 3-inch knife wound that required surgery.

West Ham is reportedly coming to Seattle.
West Ham United is expected to come the United States for a summer friendly tour and apparently they could be facing the Seattle Sounders while they are here. West Ham blog KUMB -- who's been around for a bit -- was the first to report the possibility, and it has since been picked up by several other fan outlets.
After winning the SheBelieves Cup in March and destroying competition in the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament, the U.S. Women's National Team kicks off its first of six friendlies before the Olympics. Today's match against Colombia will air on FS1 at 4:00 p.m. PT.
The match is taking place at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut, which saw snow this week.
Youngster's struggles are just part of the process of adjusting to the professional game, he says.
This has not been the dream start so many had envisioned for Jordan Morris when he signed with the Seattle Sounders this offseason. Including his two CONCACAF Champions League starts, Morris has now made six appearances and logged more than 400 professional minutes.
Another strong effort finally pays off with the first win of the year
It feels good to get off the donut. I have been bullish on this team for the entire year so far, and I saw nothing in the 1-0 win Saturday night at Century Link Field against the Montreal Impact to change my mind. I did see a team that has plenty of room for improvement, but I also saw a team that imposed its will until it got the result it deserved.
On May 11th the 102nd Lamar Hunt US Open Cup gets underway. In the Puget Sound that means PDL side Sounders U23s get to host California club Outbreak FC.
Outbreak is based out of Long Beach/Huntington Beach where they host adult and youth teams. Their team earned a chance at the Open Cup through local qualifying, beating San Pedro Monsters FC and Buena Park FC.
Even after Sigi Schmid highlighted that the Sounders clash against the Montreal Impact might feature some changes to their new tactical makeup, it was unsurprising to see how little changed for the Seattle Sounders. While their first half was much of the same-old same-old we've seen the first three games, some small changes paid huge dividends in the second half.
New FIFA president linked to corruption scandal, MLS turns 20, and goals of the week.
Say it isn't so; the new FIFA boss is already linked to corruption. The Panama papers ensnare Gianni Infantino in a corruption scandal.
Not sure what this goalkeeper was going for, the no-look penalty kick save or the "I don't know what just hit me" save, which is all well and good because he still saved the penalty.
Sounders coach admits he's missed some talents along the way, but still has belief in the likes of Jordan Morris and Oalex Anderson.
Between Seattle's youngsters' somewhat underwhelming performances for the first team and S2's poor start, questions about the role of youth players in the organization's setup have been posed to Sigi Schmid quite a bit the past few days.

The Seattle Sounders FC defeated Montreal Impact 1-0 and what better way to revisit the match than through animated gifs.
"Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.
That's three games, three losses for Sounders FC 2 after they gave up three goals to the brand-new, Spurs-backed San Antonio FC.
The Sounders came out flat, and two individual mistakes led to fairly easy goals for San Antonio forward Jason Johnson within the first 10 minutes. First, Oniel Fisher failed to pick up Johnson as he made a run into the box in the 3rd minute, and Tyler Miller was easily beaten to the far post.
Then Twitter got involved and things deteriorated from there.

Hooo boy, recently retired USWNT forward Abby Wambach was arrested on DUI charges in Portland on Saturday night.
We finally won! And we're not last in MLS anymore, just in the Western Conference.
Panic over! The Sounders won. We are no longer the lowest team in the table (league wide), we are right on the heels of the Cascadia side with four points and our next opponent (the Orange Texans), meaning we can pole vault to 8th in the West next week (and yes that still sounds kind of bad).
Sometimes expectations versus reality can leave a bitter taste in our mouths. Life is best experienced while living, so take a breath, acknowledge your presence in the now, and be free.
For me, my Saturday paralleled this early season that the Seattle Sounders have so far experienced. I woke up on an air mattress, eager for the forthcoming IKEA shipment that would bring me my brand new bed and mattress, items that I ordered well over a month prior.
In a day or so I'll need to enter my vote for the MLS Player of the Week in SB Nation Soccer's weekly polling. In that poll we get a vote for first, second and third. Our votes are public. This week is the first time I'm considering voting for a Sounder, but not for first.
My first place vote will go to Kaka.
By now, you've likely seen or at least heard about Barcelona's tribute to Johan Cruyff. It came before the weekend's most watched soccer match -- Saturday's El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid -- after all, and was plenty impressive.
But the display Ajax and their fans put together was on a whole other emotional level, which makes sense as their connection to Cruyff was arguably even stronger and deeper.
Still down five players due to injury Ezra Hendrickson will have to get production from Academy kids and loaned first teamers. Seattle Sounders FC 2 is still without a goal under these circumstances. Each of their two losses was powered by a team with MLS talent. In the midweek loss to Arizona that loss was powered by a stellar performance from Sam Garza, a player who the Sounders didn't see as having a future with them.
It feels good to wake up and rate the players in a victory, right? No one would call this a perfect performance, but some excellent defensive play kept a clean sheet, and a stop-and-go offense squeezed in a goal at the other end. It was certainly a match to build on.
We the raters get to consider a different-looking team this week.
"I thought we played well at times tonight and from there, the road gets easier and everyone can take a big sigh and a breath of fresh air." -Sigi Schmid
At times it felt like the Seattle Sounders were sure to score, and at times it felt like it would be another very frustrating evening at CenturyLink, but Andreas Ivanschitz dropped in a perfect ball from the corner, Clint Dempsey did what he had to do to score, and Seattle can finally put a few precious points in their 2016 bank account.
It's on Q13, ROOT and Univsion-Seattle at 7 PM. Watch with us.
At 0-3-0 -3 the Seattle Sounders already have a hill to climb in 2016. The next stage of that hill are the Montreal Impact. Quebec's finest are 2-1-0 +2 powered by not Drogba, but Nacho Piatti. The creative mid has three goals and two assists.
Without a point in three games and with several players coming off international appearances, the Seattle Sounders are going with a distinctly different starting lineup against the Montreal Impact than they have until now. Clint Dempsey is sliding back to midfield, Aaron Kovar is in for Jordan Morris, Dylan Remick is replacing Joevin Jones and Brad Evans returns at center back.
Dempsey nearly opened the scoring in the second half
After Clint Dempsey was fouled outside the box in 64th minute, he took the resulting free kick and nearly opened the scoring if not for a fantastic save from Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush.
Nearly fifteen minutes after his excellent free kick was tipped over the bar, Clint Dempsey put the Sounders up 1-0 over the Impact in the 79th minute with a header from an Andreas Ivanschitz corner kick.
Oalex Anderson, who came on for Nelson Valdez earlier in the second half, showed off his technical skill and speed by beating two defenders to open up acres of space in the final third. Unfortunately, Anderson ignored his wide open teammates and continued his run into the box, where an Impact defender snatched the ball away and ended the amazing run.
Seattle had more chances late on, but the match finished with just the one goal
The Sounders' fourth match of the season started rather slowly, as the first half ended with only one shot on goal for Seattle and two for visitors Montreal Impact. A slightly altered lineup saw Aaron Kovar and Dylan Remick come in forJordan Morris and Joevin Jones, and the Sounders played in what looked more like a 4-2-3-1 than the 4-3-3 they had been playing thus far this season.
Clint Dempsey was better in the middle, the Sounders offense has problems and Oalex Anderson was ... something.
This was not the performance the Seattle Sounders needed. It was sloppy, boring and not the kind of thing they'll look at fondly. But it was EXACTLY the kind of result they needed.
Quebec's greatest soccer team come to CenturyLink Field for a 7 PM match. It is a rare match that will be available live on ROOT outside of Seattle, on Q13 in the Seattle metro area and on Univision-Seattle if you want Spanish language coverage. Didier Drogba will not start, but may be in the 18. He has a case of the "scared of Turf.
There is construction at the Northwest Gate to CenturyLink Field. That project is going to reduce capacity. That gate also happens to be the one that the vast majority of fans coming from Pioneer Square and the North use. Here's what you can do to get in and see kickoff;
- Arrive earlier than usual
- Use the expanded capacity at the North and West Gates
- Enter through the SouthWest Gate prior to the March to the Match showing up
Also of note - the 520 bridge is closed until 2 PM Sunday.
What's the real story behind the world's biggest rivalry? Robbie Keane's carefree cartwheels are curtailed for at least a month. Mark Geiger strikes again.
Today, lots of soccer games will be played around the world, but most people will be watching and talking about FC Barçelona vs.
Jeisson Vargas seems like a player very much worth getting excited about.
At this point, there's really no doubt that the Seattle Sounders are looking to make some additions. GM Garth Lagerwey has confirmed as much and Sporting Director Chris Henderson has been leaving clues all over Twitter, snapping pictures of stadiums he's visited in Argentina and Chile.
MLS almost observes the FIFA break, then gives out two byes and Mark Geiger makes his return. Three Big Storylines, National TV and Streaming Listing and From a Sounders Point of View are here in your MLS Week 5 Gamethread

Joevin Jones, who many thought to be injured, should be good to go on Saturday
Since most of the Sounders' returning internationals didn't get in until Wednesday or Thursday, head coach Sigi Schmid was hesitant in confirming their status at Thursday's training. Friday, however, saw all of those players participate in training in some capacity.
The international break is over. This is a good thing. It means that the Seattle Sounders will try to win their first competitive match of 2016. The bad news, though, is that Saturday's opponent in the 7 PM game on Q13 is the Montreal Impact, the current Eastern Conference leader.
The Impact score two goals a game (more bad news), but give up more than a goal a game (pretty good news).
