Portland - Sounders: Game Thread

Sounder at Heart at related • 0 views

Sorry for the late post, but technical issues and what not. The Sounders are down south of the Columbia tonight to start their campaign for the the US Open Cup, probably the only title that's still a realistic possibility. As always in the USOC, it's do or die, and the Sounders really need to bring their best, because the Timbers will not be rolling over.

Yes, the Sounders are the MLS side. Yes, the Timbers are the Timbers. Sure, you could look at this one as a gift, even going on the road. You could take this match lightly, you would also be wrong. While Portland might be Seattle's little brother in so many ways, this match sees the side that is playing better hosting.

He [Sepp Blatter] also said he would renew discussions about technology to determine if a goal was scored, as was the case in the England-Germany game, but not video replay that would have ruled out the Argentina goal against Mexico.

"The only principle we are going to bring back for discussion is goal-line technology," Blatter said.

Seriously, things aren't that fun in Seattle sports. The Sounders are struggling. The Mariners are awful. The Seahawks have a receiver that steals doughnuts and a coach that cheated his way to a national championship. The Huskys had a good season in football, which means that they saw .500 at some point; while in basketball they made the NCAA tournament only because of their success in the PAC-10 tournament.

I connected with Kyle Shank over at Brotherly Game concerning the Philadelphia Union as they struggle to succeed in their expansion year. Here are the three questions that I thought you should all know the answers to.

Dave Clark - Sebastien Le Toux has settled in fairly strongly as one starting forward and scoring, while it seems his only help tallying goals has come from Mwanga as a sub.

... formations are poor representations of on-pitch reality. We should be able to make predictions from scientific models, but formations do not provide sound predictions of players' average on-field positioning.
