Sounder at Heart Archives for January 2009
This was originally posted on April 9, 2009. Since then a lot has
changed in Sounders land, and we have gotten about 2 Million page views. It was one of my faves
from my pre-SBN days. Lately, I have referred to it quite a bit, but I thought I would just bump it
back up as a reprise of days past.
As I continue to look at the tactics and strategy of Major League soccer and specifically the
techniques of Coach Sigi and Sounders FC. As I perused the Sounders roster, media guides and
what-not I discovered that possibly the person outside of the Schmid family that knows the most, is
someone who has just [.
Viewers at home immediately noticed the change during pre-game. Kevin Calabro, Seattle ico, was
away. As I explained to Jason Churchill, when Sounders FC lost their NBA Hall of Famer, they didn't
go for someone local and easy, but with a little more soccer knowledge. Sounders FC went for Glenn
Davis, a [.
For me the story is of course Steve Zakuani on the left side and how that changed the speed of the
offense, as well as the set pieces. While yes, Zakuani scored off of a set piece, I don't think
that play is the story, but instead the return to a rapid transition game [...]
When he starts Sounders FC wins, ok maybe that's a little bit of my own personal hyperbole, but he
did start last Saturday against the San Jose Earthquakes. The number one pick out of Akron also
scored, and was credited with the secondary assist on the Brad Evans goal. Steve now has 2 goals
After four home matches, I can truly see that my efforts to get on the Alliance Council need to be
redoubled. Because Sounders FC is allowing MLS and the league's business relationships to dictate
the beer choices, and yet they could be so much better. Just because Budweiser is the "official
beer" of MLS does [.
Somewhat shocking news out of Toronto as the 7th place Reds have a coach resign/quit/fired/asked
away. Toronto is entering the stretch that will make or break their season playing two extra
matches in both May and June (Voyageurs Cup/Canadian Championship). If you have the time watch Its
Called Football to figure out the fallout.
So I wore my scarf today, and my Emerald Pitch tee, and in reading the Seattle Times blog, I notice
that they adapted it a little bit. What are you doing to grow the sport in this fair city? Have you
noticed people's attitudes toward soccer changing? And Larry Stone as a photographer? National

I was featured on the Its Called Football pregame show for the Toronto FC v Chivas USA Wednesday
night match. TFC currently leads 1-nil. Chivas has 2 yellows and oddly only 9 fouls [...]
The sky isn't falling. The honeymoon is not over. Quite simply there are a few issues that have
been displayed in the last two matches for Sounders FC, but the situation is certainly not dire.
The defense is not a problem. The offense isn't broken. Let's look at some facts concerning the
Rave Green [.
Prost Amerika asked me to do the player ratings again, and so I did. Some may find them a bit
harsh, but these are my thoughts, and so here I am to defend them as necessary. I will have my
match analysis up late tonight or early tomorrow after I rewatch the game, but if [...]
It took me a while to figure out where to spend the Saturday Night of an away match, but I finally
chose a fine eatery that is close to home and soccer friendly. Sure it only has one TV but Toby has
said that it will be on Sounders over Mariners. We'll see. I'm [...]
A few soccer fans have asked me if I think that Sounders FC and MLS are getting enough coverage in
the Seattle market. They point out the 30,000 or so crowd, the good TV ratings for games so far and
the general excitement they notice on the streets. But, maybe the problem isn't the media. [...]
The loss of the team has left a few bloggers and commenters speaking of moral victories, of the
small successes, and of how well the team played despite playing a man down for 61 minutes. But the
goal of the game is not to play well, it isn't time of possession and it isn't [...]
So the Sounders Reserves played against that club from that city to the south today. For me though
the conversation from this is really about the depth that Adrian Hanauer has assembled thus far.
Sure there are a few rookies on the pitch (ok, four all at wide positions - Karkas, Brown, Zakuani
and Nyassi), [.

While heavy on Fredy Montero analysis as it was filmed prior to full knowledge of the legal issue
came out, Its Called Football takes a look at the upcoming match. This is a 24 minute look at
today's match by Ben Rycroft and Duane Rollins and guest host Rafael Carbajal a former CSL coach
