Third In The East

With J Hutcherson -- Everything that once was for this Major League Soccer season is back in place... or something like that. Yes, the Galaxy finally get their version of a first choice lineup and it's good enough to beat our Eastern Conference leaders. Is that really such a surprise? The real point of Week 24 has to be the teams blowing their chances, not the ones taking advantage of their opportunities.

With J Hutcherson -- The biggest game on Major League Soccer's schedule this week is only available locally, and now has the added feature of David Beckham's return. Somewhere in a room where it matters the words "flexible scheduling" are being used. Instead, Saturday's national games are New York - Colorado (4pm ET - TeleFutura) and Philadelphia - Chicago (5:30pm ET - FSC).

Seattle 0 - Salt Lake 0

A point in Seattle means Real Salt Lake now leads the Western Conference and the race for the Supporters' Shield, but they're tied on points with Columbus and Los Angeles who play each other on Saturday. What was a chance to stay top of both tables through Saturday ended up with a missed penalty and one point instead of three at Qwest Field.

Houllier's Latest Audience

With J Hutcherson -- I once watched Gerard Houllier give a presentation at an NSCAA Convention that on the surface could've easily been dismissed. Who knew that making sure a squad of players is happy with their work could make for a better team? Or that you get there by instilling respect. But as Houllier unpacked how that works in practice, there was depth and insight in what he was saying.

The Chicago Fire and Toronto FC split the points on Wednesday night at Toyota Park, with both teams well aware that they need to makeup ground in the playoff chase. Toronto takes sole possession of 3rd place in the Eastern Conference, but that's only good for 9th place in the playoff table. Both teams had their opportunities, with Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson needing 3 saves and Toronto's Stefan Frei finishing with 6.

Points For Chicago

USSoccerPlayers at related • 0 views
With J Hutcherson -- Chicago hosts Toronto tonight at Toyota Park as they once again play against the difference in games played. Chicago still trails every other team in the League by at least a game. In 5th-place, they've played 20 to Toronto's 22. The Fire could take Toronto's slot in the standings with a win tonight, and what that actually means depends on who you ask.
