American Abroad: Half A Chance

By Graig Carbino - ALBANY, NY (Mar 2, 2009) USSoccerPlayers -- Is it just me, or do US players get about five minutes to prove themselves in Europe before they are brushed aside for the next European/South American up and comer? Seriously, and I really do not mean to be biased here, but this Landon Donovan/Bayern Munich saga has turned into a complete nightmare.

Staging A Classic

USSoccerPlayers at related • 1 view
With J Hutcherson -- Here's the thing about National Team baseball. Amid all the complaints about the last World Baseball Classic, it will eventually find more of an audience than any of its critics expect. The why is obvious to anybody interested in soccer, rugby, or cricket. The international component of those games overshadows the club version.

Clearing

USSoccerPlayers at related • 1 view
Clearing is the process of getting the ball out of the defensive third of the field into the neutral and offensive third. When on defense, your players should be working to get the ball out as quickly as possible; they do not want to waste time with footwork or back passing in a pressure-level situation.

Beef up National Teams courtesy of a rule requiring club sides to field six players - and here's the important part - who could theoretically play for that club's country.

The chest trap is one of four primary ways to trap a soccer ball (the other ways include the head trap, the thigh trap, and the foot trap). Trapping refers to the process of stopping or slowing a ball that has traveled from one player to another via a pass. If a player is using a chest trap to control the pass, presumably the ball has come to them through the air.

You're standing there on the sidelines, feeling pretty confident about how your team is performing. The second half whistle kicked off a few minutes ago, and your side has the run of play.
