Di Maria – Real Madrid’s Most Important Cog Is Now At United

Republik Of Mancunia at related • 0 views

Angel Di Maria may not be the man to provide the "miracle" Louis van Gaal is looking for to enable United to become serious title contenders this season, but he will ensure a big step in the right direction following a tumultuous few years at Old Trafford.

The fact that the vast majority of the usually hard-to-please Madrid supporters wanted the Argentine international to stay says it all.

Angel di Maria was unveiled as a Manchester United player today following his record breaking transfer earlier this week.

The Argentinean claimed his main aim is to get United back in to the Champions League for next season.

"I'm very pleased to be at Manchester United, I like the team and I wanted to come here even though there is no Champions League football this season," he said.

Manchester United broke the British transfer fee yesterday when they signed Angel Di Maria for £59.7m. Plenty of newspapers have been questing how United have managed to spend so much and yet still the fans are unhappy with the Glazers and Ed Woodward.

Plenty of tables have been published showing the comparative net spend between United and other European clubs, suggesting that United fans don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to complaining about what has been spent.

One of the biggest criticisms against Danny Welbeck is that for a striker he doesn't score enough goals. Even the biggest Welbeck enthusiasts can't argue with that. He's scored 20 goals in the league over the past three seasons, which is still more than £50m man Fernando Torres, but nowhere near what you would expect for a quality forward.
