Whenever you leave Manchester and speak to someone about the team you support, the predictable response is: "why don't you support City? I thought all Mancunians supported them."

It's a bizarre lie which is perpetuated by City fans.

It's hard to believe that people would actually think that one of the world's biggest club, England's biggest club, wouldn't have supporters in its own city.

Rafael Benitez spent am incredible £247,730,000 during his time at Liverpool, a net spend of £104,050,000, and therefore an average spend of £17,341,667 a season.

Yet in Benitez's time at the club, in the league they managed 5th, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 2nd and 7th placed finishes.

"I don't know if Liverpool's current situation is anything to do with the financial position," said Ferguson.

Waiting for Eric : The 15th Anniversary of Cantona’s Return

Republik Of Mancunia at related • 0 views

We now know what we didn't at the time, that at least one Manchester United player blamed Eric Cantona for the team's failure to win a historic Double Double in the 1994-95 season, thereby also missing out on achieving that extreme rarity, a third successive league title. The fault lay with his spectacular kung-fu kick on that wintry night at Selhurst Park in the January when he did what so many players have only dreamed of doing, flattening an obnoxiously abusive fan with one fell blow.

Getting knocked out of the Cup by Liverpool is never a pleasant experience, but the last time it happened the event was totally overshadowed by a sickening injury to fans' favourite, Alan Smith.

By coincidence, Smith was in the crowd on Tuesday night and witnessed first hand the injury Antonio Valencia suffered, which is obviously something he can relate to.
