RoM Hearts Rooney 4eva

Republik Of Mancunia at related • 2 views

Wayne Rooney was named Man of the Match in our 2-1 victory over Arsenal yesterday after scoring our equalising goal. Given that our winning goal was scored by an Arsenal player, I suppose whoever was making the decision didn't feel as though they had much choice.

After the match, Rooney revealed that incredibly nobody knew who our penalty taker was which is why Michael Carrick stepped up to take the pen against Burnley.

What Ferguson and Rooney Made Of Michael Owen’s Performance

Michael Owen had fifteen minutes of football today and two good opportunities to score. His first chance was ruled out for offside, which replays showed was marginal, as he burst behind the back line, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball in the right angle.

The second opportunity really should have resulted in a goal, with Rooney's great pass on meaning Owen could be the offside trap.

Whilst becoming increasingly frustrated with Cristiano Ronaldo's antics last season, I did always feel some sympathy for it. Two wrongs don't make a right, but we had all seen the countless occasions when players had intentionally kicked at Ronaldo and the referee did nothing about it. He was battered and bruised during his time in the Premiership, so whilst never really wanting to justify it when Ronaldo went to ground too easily, I did understand it.

Last season we were written off because Cristiano Ronaldo was injured at the start of the season, we'd have to make a trip to the other side of the world during the busiest period of the season, and quite frankly, it just wasn't possible to repeat the success of 07/08.

Ronaldo scored 16 fewer goals than us, we won the FIFA World Club Cup and still came back and played catch up, we won the League Cup, we were knocked out of the FA Cup by a dodgy ref and penalty shoot-outs in the semi-final, and lost to quite clearly the best side in Europe in the European Cup final.

Edwin Van der Sar has broken two bones in his left hand, meaning he will be out for around eight weeks. Our keeper has already undergone surgery for the breaks which he sustained in saving Danijel Pranjic's penalty in the Audi Cup last week.

Hughes Gets Cocky About His Playing Days… But What About His Managerial Career?

Former Manchester United striker, Mark Hughes, or "Munich bastard" to his fans, has come across all cocky in the press. Dear dear, it seems all the money, fame and back-page stories have gone to his head.

Apparently Hughes doesn't have to speak in the press to raise his profile, like Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benitez, because he's used to be centre of attention thanks to his playing career.

Republik Of Mancunia at related • 1 view

Last season, Sir Alex Ferguson questioned how much room there was for Chelsea's team to improve, given they hadn't dipped in to the transfer market and their best players were all a year old. Ron 'Chopper' Harris claimed Ferguson was "talking out of his arse" whilst Tiny Tears reckoned it was United who had peaked, not Chelsea.

Arsenal More Polite Than United

There have been plenty of column inches dedicated to this fuss with Le Havre and Paul Pogba this week, with Manchester United being painted as the big bad wolf, stealing the young French lad from his homeland.

1. Greedy club - United want the best talent for the cheapest price.

After learning that Park Ji-Sung was turning down the opportunity to represent South Korea in order to be available to play for Manchester United, Darren Fletcher has added himself to the club > country ranks.

Scotland boss, George Burley, has organised for his squad to begin training on Thursday in preparation for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Norway next week.

Park A Club Over Country Man

UNITED > England, the Republik of Mancunia, the idea that Manchester and our club is more important than anything else. United, Kids, Wife - in that order, the banner seen on our travels.

Club over country players are fairly rare, although we do have a few at United, and should be massively appreciated.

"I'm very comfortable in Manchester," Gabriel Heinze said at the end of the 2006-2007 season. "I've been a champion, captain and the fans love me. Everything is perfect."

Two days later, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the player told him he wanted to leave.

When Liverpool came in the frame, the manager repeatedly reassured the fans that there was no way our former favourite was going to be playing at Anfield next season.

Observations From Audi Cup

1. Anderson really can take a free-kick.
2. German food is pretty rank. I don't even know what they do to their mashed potato but it has the consistency of a stress ball.
3. Antonio Valencia looks to be a good buy.
4. Germans don't get the concept of 'jibbing'. Despite there being no checks for tickets the whole three days we were travelling around on the U-Bahn, the Germans always bought tickets.

"It's not the same any more. To be honest, it's rough. Everywhere new that opens attracts the wrong type of people. It's not nice, so I haven't bothered to go out."
Alex Curran, Steven Gerrard's wife
