A Series of Questions…Answers, Please

1
I am, officially, going nucking futs in the other space, finally coming good on a concept I've wanted to try for a while.   Don't count on it sticking around, though...I have a lousy record with such things. What am I doing?  Posing a series of questions that came to me as I watched DC United fail [. Click to continue reading...

DCU 1-2 Crew: Adam Moffat’s One-Minute to Redemption

2
(NOTE: To help people to find our new space, we'll be cross-posting for a few days.  Below, you'll see an excerpt to the post I wrote about the Columbus Crew's shocking - shock...ing - win over DC United.  And I say "shocking" mainly from DC's perspective.) "If you've ever scored an own-goal - even a play [. Click to continue reading...

Hello Big Soccer (Resistance Is Futile*)

2
You may have noticed me griping about lack of time lately; my colleagues, Breton and Ryan, managed to hold their silence...and, it should be noted, their dignity. A big part of that can be attributed to our decision to change Center Holds It's (CHI) base of operations. Early last week, we received an invitation to [. Click to continue reading...

MLS Week 3 Power Rankings: The Last Shall Be First

1
(This same post appears on my corner of BigSoccer's Center Holds It page.) "Lo, and the first among you shall be second, and the second first. The third only gets show...there's only so much I can do." - God (OK, maybe not). Time, irrelevant. That was one hell of a no-way weekend. I saw a [...] Click to continue reading...

CHI Player Interviews: Rochester’s Chad Severs

1
Chad Severs is a NJ-born striker currently playing for the Rochester Rhinos of the USL First Division. A lethal finishing touch and high work rate highlights his arsenal of attributes that have taken to him from Ocean City HS - where he came one goal shy (with 159) of tying Tab Ramos' NJ state record [. MLS Week 3: Black Eyes and Big Ideas

4
(NOTE: Because the week got off the a god-awful start - and because I further handicapped this young week by drowning it in beer - I have to forgo posting the feature I advertised this morning, "MLS Week #___: Let the Record Show."  I'll get this stuff down shortly...promise.  I lieu of that one, I'll [. MLS Week 3 Ink-Blot

2
The idea behind this is pretty simple: whether you've seen the game in question or not, results provoke a gut-level reaction. It can be a "wow," a "meh," or even an "I told you, you twit," but there's always something. That's what comes below: a kind of "say the first thing that pops [...] Click to continue reading...

10 Bright Spots of Week 3: A Different Becks and A Good Weekend to Have a Keeper

10
1. Kyle Beckerman Someone pinch this guy. Two goals, one a possible goal of the week, against a revamped D.C. United squad that looked helpless at the machinations of a fluid RSL attack. Beckerman was overwhelmingly the reason for that. He won balls in the midfield, showed near-perfect passing abilities, and never let up. Click to continue reading...

La Liga: Jornada 32 Weekend In Review

1
For anyone that's new to these parts, I don't write weekend reviews, but rather link to reviews since I don't find it to be a good use of my time. And since others do a great job, I just link to them! La Liga Results-Jornada 32 Saturday 12 April 2008 (Spanish Time) 20:00 Valencia 1 - Racing 2 [...] Click to continue reading...

McBride and Fulham’s away win too little too late?

11
Brian McBride and Clint Dempsey started for the Cottagers as they trounced a sad looking Reading squad. Steve Coppell's side forgot how to attack - and you know that happened when Andre Bikey is the only one that can find a shot on net. Kasey Keller manned the nets as Roy Hodgson shattered his "only [. MLS: Pouring Some Sauce over Week 3

3
With the ground shifting violently beneath my feet and my hands getting burned by all the pokers I'm pulling from the fire, I thought I'd try to post something saucy, topical, and yet not too complicated. I also wanted it to be useful...you judge the extent to which I succeeded. As such, below you'll find [. Click to continue reading...

Who’s your PFA Player of the Year???

2
Here are the nominees, which came out yesterday, for the Professional Footballers Associaton's Player of the Year. For many, the decision seems to be clear cut. What's your vote............? 1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) - David Pizarro's least favorite player has gathered in 40 games a whopping 37 goals - outscoring both Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez together. MLS Week 2 Collective Power Rankings

2
The real pisser about the Major League Soccer (MLS) schedule is the fact that, by the time I get around to posting these on Thursday, some of these calls look silly. I'm thinking here of that #1 ranking for the Kansas City Wizards; I'm guessing that the 8 of 11 pundits who placed KC [...] Click to continue reading...

La Liga: The First ‘Jueves de Feria’ Without Antonio Puerta

0
It would be criminal of me today to not mention Antonio Puerta, on this 'Jueves de Feria' (Feria Thursday). 2 years ago, Antonio Puerta single handedly started Sevilla on a run that would Spain 15 months and 5 separate titles (UEFA Cup 2006, 2007, Spanish Copa Del Rey 2007, Spanish Super Cup 2007 and European Super [. CCC08: Done, Dusted…and Ugly…just Ugly

2
Well, that sucks.  As any who cares by now knows, both of Major League Soccer's representatives in the CONCACAF Champions Cup have exited the tournament, the Houston Dynamo with a whimper, while DC United went down with fists flying...well, judging by the scoreline at least; I didn't see the DC game. La Liga: Jose Maria Del Nido Strikes Again

0
Anyone who reads this blog realize I love Sevilla President, Jose Maria del Nido and all of the lovely things that comes from his greedy, sketchy lawyer mouth. Look at what a stud he is, in all his Feria de Abril glory, hanging out in his fancy caseta Today, Del Nido came out with a [...] Click to continue reading...

Found Three! The Cubans have resurfaced…

6
...in Los Angeles. But not with Chivas USA as expected. Defender Yenier Bermudez, midfielder Yordany Alvarez, and goalkeeper (hero of the 1-1 tie vs. the US U-23s) Jose Manuel Miranda - the all-star of the bunch - are now on trial with the Los Angeles Galaxy. With WIcks and Cronin, I see Galaxy giving a long look [. Click to continue reading...

Red Bulls: Goodbye de Grandpre, Angel to sit Saturday?

Michael Lewis over at Big Apple Soccer reports that Juan Pablo Angel is questionable for this Saturday's match-up vs. FC Dallas. Ives Galarcep finally got Juan Carlos Osorio to admit his interest in Jorge Alberto Rojas, the second most-capped player in Venezualan history. He also mentions that Chris Innes should be signed.
